John Adamson

Profile
I graduated from the University of Oregon in 2011 with a major in International Studies and a minor in Political Science. My geographic focus was the Middle East with a specialization in Islam and counter-terrorism. I wrote an honors thesis titled, "Global Jihad: Al-Qaeda and Its Implications for the Global System," which was an 84 page breakdown on al-Qaeda and its contemporary jihad. Albeit a long process, I enjoyed every minute of it! I was in the Middle East this past summer (2011) and witnessed the Arab Spring first-hand. I spent the majority of my time in Cairo and Kuwait, but also stayed in the UAE and Jordan. I had a very interesting in-country experience in both Egypt and Kuwait. Although an American, I had no reserves from checking out Tahrir Square during mass protests. Currently, I am in the process of applying to graduate schools where I will get an M.A. in Security Studies with a focus on terrorism. I have a strong interest in international affairs and hope to work in a similar setting after I graduate.
