'Kids Pick' the Next US President on the Internet


While American voters are electing a new president, not only adults are concerned about the election. Many American children have an opinion about who should be their next president. To understand the preferences of the next generation, a famous American cable television network for children will be holding an election for kids to pick their next president. Past results of these elections have been extremely accurate.

Turning on televisions in America, conversations revolve around the presidential election. However, do you think only adults are discussing politics at the dinner table? When this pair of brother and sister toddlers argued about political issues, debating about presidential candidates, their parents are in awe and amused.

You might be wrong if you wonder how much little kids know about politics. In fact, they observe with ears and eyes, and they have valid reasons to support their choices of candidates. Even though reporters try to trap them with rhetorical questions, these kids have strong opinions.

While the future generations have their unique opinions, as a country emphasizing children’s rights, America nevertheless wants to give kids an opportunity to express their political views. A famous children’s TV network, Nickelodeon, invites children to pick their next president on the Internet on October 20.

Since 1988, Nickelodeon has been holding “Kids Pick the President” event. For the five elections in the past 20 years, kids’ pick have been accurate for four elections, much more accurate than any other political critics or fortune tellers. They only missed the election in 2004, when they preferred Sen. John Kerry over George W. Bush. Now, Bush is facing his lowest approval rating as his presidency is coming to an end. Perhaps, kids might have more insightful political views than adults.
