America’s Failure!

A spokesperson for the U.S. administration declared the failure to persuade Israel to freeze settlements, and this in itself clearly aligned the American position in favor of the continuation of settlement. If America had wanted to pressure Israel, it could have stopped or limited settlement activities just as it did last time.

On the Palestinian side, those who did not want to hear about the American failure on this issue began to search for justifications for the continuation of this position, bending over backwards to say that the U.S. administration advised the Authority not to reach an agreement with the Israeli government for a settlement freeze. They did not hear that the administration had referred to failure and that the Authority is still waiting for the declaration of America’s failure even to take the initiative for alternative steps, which everyone knows.

It is clear that what is between the Obama administration and the Netanyahu government has two aspects: First, it is important to note the lack of disagreement between the two sides on the continuation of settlement activity. Second, there is no disagreement between them on the resumption of settlement construction. This has had an impact on peace negotiations with the Palestinians, but not on relations between the United States and Israel, who the U.S. administration assists by providing great freedom of movement inside the U.S. and by increasing pressure on Arabs and Palestinians for further concessions, under the pretext of pushing Israel to accept a settlement freeze.

Through what is being leaked and circulated, in addition to the state of inactivity experienced by the Palestinian Authority, it seems that this precarious position will continue undisturbed as long as it serves Israel’s purposes. At the same time, the Obama administration avoids domestic pressure until it can develop a new position and start again.

However, the Palestinians still live deluded by hope for change in Israel’s position, although no attempt has been made to promise it. A great attempt has been made to persuade people that there is hope that America is still struggling against the settlement, despite what Washington and Israeli media have said.

This sham situation between America and Israel cannot stand the test of time. They must make a search for viable alternatives that would change the rules of the political game for control of this situation. Otherwise, the United States and Israel will lose the authority and ability to make any choices except to spend more time getting Israeli visas to move between one Palestinian town and another.
