The People Will Not Let You

A vast majority of the Syrian people announced their position on the events the nation has been exposed to by going out to “million-man” marches last Tuesday, in favor of loyalty to the nation and its leader Bashar al-Assad, and by coming out on websites and objective, professional television channels. Yet regardless of that, and despite the reform decisions adopted by the political leaders regarding peoples’ livelihood and the political realm and despite the practical steps to put these decisions into practice — which started after the distinguished president’s speech in front of the People’s Assembly (which up until now represented the committees that were formed for the immediate investigation into the issues that killed a number of citizens in Dara and Latakia, the passage of legislation to pave the way for lifting the state of emergency, as well as solving the problem of the 1962 census in Hasaka — in addition to the previous decrees to increase wages and salaries and take care of the problem of the border regions) — we find that those who demanded domestic reform from inside the country, through some of the demonstrations that took place and the processes of sabotage and murder that occurred, or from outside the country through (biased) satellite television channels, SMS text messages or websites — do not want reform. They merely wish to tamper continuously with the security of the homeland and its citizens. They only want to encourage those trying to sow discord between the sons of a unified Syrian people by playing to those conspiring against Syria who are working to weaken, fragment and paralyze Syria’s central role in confronting and resisting the American-Zionist plan. Since they do not want or hope for reform, they persist in their inflammatory calls, destructive actions and seductive intrigues.

Indeed, we say to those people (the minority): If you wanted the sort of reform and development that Syrians wanted and continue to want, then that train has already left the station, and obstruction of its path would be impermissible. And if you do not want the desired reform — contrary to what you demanded in the beginning — and you are bent on your illegal, inhuman and unpatriotic behavior and actions…well then, the great Syrian people of every stripe will never permit you to do this. At the same time, the competent security forces will not remain idle towards you, but rather will demand — as is the case in America, France, Europe and all the countries of the world — to confront you and hold you accountable, according to what the enforceable laws of the nation stipulate.
