We Will Not Fall into Your Trap

The number of pretexts has multiplied, but the American-European betrayal has a single aim. There has been one empty draft resolution after another, all devised by the West in the U.N. Security Council as its agents scramble after it both at home and abroad. The single goal is the destruction of Syria: the exhaustion of the country both domestically and internationally and the political and economic draining of the nation and its standards of living. The only reason for this is because Syria said “no” to foreign dictates, “no” to international hegemony and harmful actions, “no” to divisive schemes, “no” to compromise and under-the-table settlements, “no” to renouncing rights, “no” to going back on national and Arab principles and finally, “no” to humiliation, shame and the destruction of the sanctity of the homeland.

America and its allies, despite their total failure to accomplish even a tiny component of their dirty scheme against Syria, have not yet given up hope. They remain determined to damage Syria. Sometimes they make threats, and sometimes, they proclaim themselves to be the global police. They make reckless accusations with no legitimate basis. They breach international conventions by interfering in Syria’s domestic affairs, yet they use these same laws and conventions to pressure Syria and to rob it of its image as a beacon of resistance and a challenge to American and Israeli undertakings in the region. America is so bold as to incite terrorist gangs in Syria to use weapons against security forces and the army, and U.S. Ambassador Ford takes provocative actions by meeting with anyone who opposes the Syrian government. He commits to supporting anyone who targets military barracks, hospitals and innocent civilians in order to exhaust Syria domestically and to incite the people against Syrian leadership. This is no longer acceptable at all.

The Syrians have had more than enough. They have expressed time and again their unequivocal refusal of the tyrannical Western agenda. Perhaps this did not seem obvious when Syrians recently threw eggs and tomatoes at Ambassador Ford during his tour, since America and nations like it still disregard what the Syrians want. They deafen their ears to the Syrians’ demands and to Syrian calls for an end to the violation of their country’s sovereignty. They want to listen to only one voice — the voice of their own interests — especially in light of strong protests that have spread throughout America against the backdrop of the strangling financial crisis which has befallen the nation.

Under slogans of freedom, democracy and human rights, they occupied Iraq and Afghanistan. They killed and displaced millions of people. Under the pretext of what the people wanted, they went into Libya. They rained the nation with bombs and destroyed the nation’s infrastructure. Under the same pretext they enlisted their political spokesmen and the media and paid millions of dollars to broadcast poison throughout Syria. They pursued increasingly dishonest politics so that they would be believed, but who was deceived? In neighboring nations, demonstrators face suppression and severe punishment, and where is the American support for them? In occupied Palestine, there is killing and destruction, seizure of lands and building of new settlements, but where is the international legislation for those victims? However, as much as the U.S. has counted on Syria’s fall and as much as it has tried to do business with the blood of the Syrian people, the Syrian land, people and regime remain, and Syria will triumph over its enemies in the end.
