Romney-Ryan: Reeks of Racism

Those Republicans, they are really too much! We were aware that Mitt Romney as a president would be a danger for the U.S. but we haven’t realized how racist this man truly is. Why did he lose the election? Because of a totally incompetent campaign? Because of a plutocrat image? Because of a GOP that turned itself into a white, male, Anglo-Saxon private club? None of the above.

Romney led a “wonderful”* campaign, he says. He explained on Wednesday that Obama won because he attributed “gifts” upon certain constituencies. He was “very generous”* towards the African-Americans and the Hispanics. And also the women! He promised them free contraception! He promised to all those lazy people a “free health care in perpetuity” and even promised an “amnesty” to those illegal immigrants. “The president’s campaign focused on giving targeted groups a big gift; he therefore made a huge effort on little things. These little things amounting to trillions of dollars,” Romney dared to say.

With Paul Ryan, his running mate, things are not more subtle. According to him, Obama won thanks to the “urban areas’” votes, a euphemism denoting the African-Americans and Hispanic voters in big cities.

Of course, there is nothing further from the truth: In the suburbs, the electors favored Obama, as well as in the big cities in Iowa and New Hampshire, two states won by Obama. But the Romney-Ryan self-justification is similar to the Bill O’Reilly-Rush Limbaugh complaint after the election: The real America, i.e. the white and rural America, is about to become a minority. Ouch!

You are going to have to get over it, my friends. Yesterday, the Pew Center dropped a bomb: In the next 20 years, the number of Hispanics able to vote will nearly double, rising from 23.7 million to 40 million. They will make up over 16 percent of the electorate. And we don’t even mention the women, Latina or otherwise, who already outnumber the men. Romney, Ryan and consorts can whine about these shameful “gifts” made to the minorities. Alternatively, they could have a reality check and realize that THEY themselves are the problem.
