Disinformation, America’s New Offensive in Syria

It is not the first time that the United States has used the media to misinform or distort news about a conflict. In Iraq, it managed information about the weapons of mass destruction perversely, and did the same thing regarding the fall of the twin towers. It made a monster of Gadhafi, and yet today his absence is mourned; the same applies for the secular Saddam Hussein, to say nothing of Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez and, today, Vladimir Putin. Among the highest excesses, yesterday it painted the USSR as a “global threat” and now, so is capitalist Russia. Nothing is correct if it is not screened in line with American interests. And after that, it ends up devastated by looting and internal warfare, such as what is happening in Mexico.

French reporter Thierry Meyssan’s stance is regrettable. For him, Obama and Putin are reshaping politico-military relationships in the world in order to avoid a new world war. Moreover, he insists that the occupant of the White House accepts as fact the tripartite situation made up by the United States, China and Russia. Unbelievably, there is even talk of Russian-American cooperation in the Syrian conflict. Nothing could be further from the truth. First and foremost, the presence of Russian fighters in Syria answers a call for help from the government of that country; while American, British, French and Turkish planes invade its air space without authorization.

It was even published that Fuad Masum, the president of Iraq, permitted Russian fighters to land at an airport in Baghdad, although this country is essentially an American colony. The idea is to concoct a false Russian-American military cooperation. Since when does the Kremlin do Washington’s work?

The shamelessness knows no bounds. The president of France asserted that Russian intervention could be uplifting if it is subjected to the terms of the coalition (namely, the United States) although, not long ago, France denied the sale of two Mistral aircraft carriers on the grounds that Russia was considered the enemy. Poroshenko is furious and states that the aforementioned intervention breaches the Minsk II treaty. Incredibly, a stone-faced Merkel insists on continuing with the sanctions, when months ago she played a role in easing the Ukrainian conflict, so harmful for commercial exchange between Germany and Russia. Advances and setbacks, threats and praise, wavering and scheming; this characterizes the European political discourse in an uncontrolled worldwide setting.

The new disinformation assault is meant to undermine the Russian offensive in the Middle East, declaring that the Russian attacks are not directed at affecting the Islamic State, but rather at decimating those opposed to the constitutional president, Bashar Assad.

The disinformation has a purpose: to discredit Russia, defining it as a new virus of the conflict, one which “is intended to put out the fire with gasoline.” At no time is the obvious ever mentioned. A strongly supported coalition of more than 40 countries (for others, 60 countries) did not obtain any military success against the Islamic State group after a year of operations. Yet during 2003, within weeks of invading, the Pentagon controlled Iraq in the second Gulf War. The roads of world domination are strange!

As always, they slander and distort, showing videos and doctored photos or other things pertinent to events that have occurred in other countries. Using simple common sense: What would be the reason for Putin to order an attack on a group of rebel minorities (financed by the CIA, according to The Wall Street Journal) if the greater danger is the domineering caliphate of a vast territory? If the greater danger is the Islamic State group and the threat of Damascus, what is the sense in attacking marginal groups?

Again the media is a battlefront. Yesterday it was the false evidence for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, later the Caligula-like dictatorship of Moammar Gadhafi (a financial buttress for the election campaign of Sarkozy, who then ended up bombing him), today it is Putin’s demented intention to rule the planet.

The truth is that the self-nominated saviors of the world leave a path of looting, death and destruction each time they decide to rescue countries that never needed their help. There is Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan. Once saved, they reach the peak of perpetual devastation.
