Nancy Pelosi Proclaims Presidential Election ‘Most Important of Our Lifetime’

“The most important election of our generation.” That is what the leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, called November’s presidential election during her speech at the convention in Philadelphia. “We are approaching a milestone moment in the American journey – the election of the first woman president of the United States,” Pelosi said.

“Hillary knows that this moment is not just about one woman’s achievement. It’s about what electing a woman President will mean for achieving the dreams and hopes and aspirations of every woman, every daughter, every son and every family, all across our land, for generations to come.”

In her speech, Pelosi also called for “breaking the grip of the gun lobby on Congress.” “For the sake of the 91Americans who are killed by gun violence each day, we must keep guns out of the hands of criminals and terrorists. If you’re on the no-fly list, then you belong on the no-buy list,” she says.

Additionally, Democrats want to invest in education, they want equal pay for all, they want to weed black money out of politics, fight ISIL by being “strong and smart, not reckless and rash,” and they want to restore a Democratic majority in Congress, Pelosi says.

In the meantime, the convention is mainly looking forward to Hillary Clinton’s final speech, which is expected to take place between 3 and 4 a.m. Belgian time, and in which she will accept her nomination.

According to extracts of the speech released by Clinton’s campaign team, Clinton will announce that her main priority will be to create more opportunities and jobs, with higher wages. Additionally, she will call for unity and cooperation. “America is once again at a moment of reckoning. Powerful forces are threatening to pull us apart,” she says. “It truly is up to us. We have to decide whether we all will work together so we all can rise together.”
