Strengthening of Trump’s Far-Right/Racist Colors

President Donald Trump, led by “America First” ideas, is showing his far-right and racist colors through the introduction of far-fetched policies. It seems he is dictating his extreme political ideologies inside and outside of his country instead of trying to rationally reorganize order. It is a concern as to whether these attempts will lead to a more dangerous and unstable world.

The most representative example is the signing of an executive order on Jan. 25 for plans to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. He plans to build a wall across the whole 3200km (1300 mile) border between the two countries to block out illegal immigrants. This is a form of racism as it considers all people of a neighboring country to be potential criminals. Trump has previously demeaned Mexicans, calling them racists and criminals during his presidential campaign. Furthermore, he claimed that Mexico will pay for the wall, which would cost over $10 trillion.

Trump also planned to sign an executive order to indefinitely ban the acceptance of Syrian refugees and to increase the verification processes for refugees from other countries as well. Racism is also in action here as the main targets will be countries that are predominantly Muslim. Trump’s anti-Muslim tendencies will certainly worsen the Middle Eastern problem; gaining strength from Trump’s support, Israel is already seemingly denying even the existence of Palestine. Trump also plans to revive secret prisons run by the CIA and to allow the torture of suspects. Once again, the main justification for these plans is to deal with Islamic extremist groups.

It is obvious that all countries pursues their own profits. However, Trump’s “America First” policies pose many problems, as they one-sidedly pressure other countries and cause division and conflict within the global community. If this trend continues, not only will the co-prosperity and democracy of the world be threatened, but it may also lead to unexpected armed conflicts. It is a question of whether the U.S. really wants this type of world.

It is doubtful Trump’s recent measures, such as plans for the wall, will be very effective; they are seriously harming the United States’ position as an international leader and thus will be not much help to the U.S. either. The international community is hoping the U.S. will continue being a responsible world superpower.
