Ivanka Trump, the Real First Lady of America

U.S president’s daughter to receive an unprecedented role that sees her in an office on the second floor of the White House, above the Oval Office.

Not a day goes by where the Trump family does not attract attention for something. Today it’s the turn of the tycoon’s favorite daughter, Ivanka, who will be promoted from first daughter and be “crowned” first lady. After red herrings and denials the official news was announced: Ivanka will have her own office within the White House and, as her attorney Jamie Gorelick confirmed, she will act as the “eyes and ears of the president.” In Washington, among the government phones and computers, she will be a real full-time employee of the Trump administration but will not have an official title or salary.

Ivanka, the Real First Lady

Having received security clearance to access classified information, Donald’s daughter seems to be occupying an increasingly central role in the life of her father. And she will continue to get closer to him. She will be just like a first lady, although she won’t receive even a symbolic allowance: Firstly, because she doesn’t need it (considering the scale of the family wealth), but mostly because a 1967 anti-nepotism law forbids the president of the United States from hiring relatives. Nonetheless, in the Trump household, the power seems to be centered from within. Following her husband Jared Kushner’s appointment as Trump’s senior advisor, Ivanka will now sit behind a desk on the second floor of the West Wing, the aristocratic wing of the White House, the center of American power.

And Melania?

For now, that desk over the Oval Office is getting up the nose of traditionalists who openly maintain, “Ivanka is setting up shop in the White House,” as the distinguished website Politico ironically notes. In other words, quite the leap forward for the fashion designer interested in perfumes and clothes. Who knows what Melania thinks, residing for convenience – or perhaps at the will of someone much higher up – out of town, or in her kitsch mansion in Palm Beach, Mar-a-Lago. Melania often seems to be extremely sad in photographs, and usually, her smiles disappear as soon as she thinks she is no longer in frame.

The Unprecedented but Prestigious Role

Right above the president’s office and with an unprecedented role: ”I will continue to offer my father my candid advice and counsel, as I have for my entire life. While there is no modern precedent for an adult child of the president, I will voluntarily follow all of the ethics rules placed on government employees,” explains Ivanka.

What Will Happen to the Clothing and Jewelry Line

To ensure there are no discussions over conflict of interest, the president’s daughter herself has said that she is ready to take a back seat with regards to her clothing and jewelry lines, with a trust created for the company in an attempt to appease her critics. The brand will also no longer be able to use her image for advertising. In demonstration of this, photos of Ivanka’s collections on her Twitter account have been replaced by those that immortalize her with heads of state.
