He is audacious, just like the Manhattan billionaire. He is impetuous, just like the New Jersey casino operator. He is unscripted, just like the reality-television figure. He is impulsive, just like the resort developer who changed bargaining tactics to take advantage of his rivals’ weaknesses.
Notwithstanding his divisive and dangerous rhetoric, Trump's presidency has been marked by more orthodox policies than his opponents feared and his supporters expected.
It's not that his term is coming to an end, which is the normal definition of a lame duck. It's that his schtick has worn off, and once that's gone all that is left is a below-average president in terms of political effectiveness, intelligence, credibility and approval ratings.
