Poll: Donald Trump Has Inflicted Great Harm on the Reputation of the US

A poll conducted by the Pew Research Center, which interviewed people in 37 countries, revealed that the popularity of U.S. President Donald Trump outside the U.S. is not particularly high except for Russia and Israel who believed that he is doing better than his predecessor Barack Obama.

More than 40 thousand people from 37 countries around the world participated in the opinion poll, which revealed that the global confidence in American policies plummeted from 64 percent during the presidency of Barack Obama to 22 percent during Trump’s tenure.

The center commented on the result by saying that: “The share of the public with a positive view of the U.S. has plummeted in a diverse set of countries from Latin America, North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.”

According to the poll’s results, confidence in the policies of the United States dropped from 64 percent during the Obama presidency to 49 percent during Trump’s tenure, whereas the negative view towards the country surged from 26 percent to 39 percent.

Furthermore, the poll indicated that Trump lost the confidence of his European and Asian allies in Washington to a large extent, and German confidence marked a decline from 86 percent to 11 percent.

In France, the confidence in the president of the United States dropped from 84 percent to 14 percent; the numbers in the United Kingdom dropped from 79 percent to 22 percent and in Canada from 83 percent to 22 percent, according to the results of the poll.

In Turkey, the confidence in the American president fell from 45 percent during the presidency of Obama to 11 percent during the presidency of Trump. The confidence in the American presidency dropped from 78 percent to 24 percent in Japan and from 73 percent to 39 percent in South Korea.

The same poll indicated that confidence in Trump increased in Russia and Israel. Russia’s confidence in the U.S. increased from 11 percent during the Obama presidency to 53 percent during the Trump presidency, and in Israel, the numbers were 49 percent to 56 percent respectively.

As for initiatives undertaken by Trump, 76 percent of those surveyed said that they are against his plan to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexican border. The poll indicated a similar objection toward his plans to withdraw from international trade agreements, the Paris climate agreement and his anti-immigration plans involving citizens from six Muslim countries.

The poll also showed that in the eyes of most people surveyed around the world, the new White House president is perceived as arrogant, intolerant, and thus dangerous.
