We might well hear new calls, in addition to those articulating the “privileged partnership” option with the E.U., for Turkey to remain in NATO only as a “privileged partner.”
Although President Obama has so far been balanced in his overall posture and policies, the chances are higher that he will now pursue a more populist and harsher foreign policy posture in order to appeal to the American public and counter the increasing claims of the opposition that he is "weak."
