A troubled Middle East Indeed, Mrs. Secretary of State!

With Hillary Clinton’s preparations to assume her position as U.S. secretary of state, some experts in Israeli-Arab conflict affairs, calling upon an American stand, more balanced, unbiased and decisive in the region torn apart anew by a savage irresponsible war and also a swift American intervention to rescue the dying peace process.

In actuality, the views mainly of David Miller, Denis Ross, Martin Indic and Daniel Kurtz, previously U.S. delegates to the Middle East, regarding the escalating Israeli-Arab crisis, preoccupied the Americans that many wrote evaluating the failures and faults of the past and offering president elect Barack Obama advice and recommendations, based on the current situation in Gaza Strip as well.

But what shall the tools be? Will America go on pampering and embracing Israel as things were with the leaving administration of Bush or will it pursue the peace process talks, following the steps of ex-president Bill Clinton?

According to analysts and with the escalating Israeli attacks against Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, the next American will have to play the role of a mediator between Israel and the Palestinians. But, and at the same time, the American officials will have to forward various options before the relevant parties.

On the other hand, Hillary Clinton is welcomed, somehow, as a secretary of state to reap the fruits of her experience as an ex-American first lady and show it in her views and attitudes. Clinton, who stood by her husband’s real and swift efforts to bring about peace, was sometimes criticized for her inclinations towards the Palestinians’ cause. Yet and when she became New York’s Democratic Senator, her attitude diametrically changed. She was dubbed “Israel’s heroine” as she preferred defending Israel and its policies.

Clinton needs new blood to deal with the Arab-Israeli rows instead of Miller, Indic, Ross and Kurtz, all Jews, who worked for five American presidents and 10 secretaries of state. Yet, all signs indicate that she will not find any ones better.
