Tech News from Silicon Valley: Starbucks Now Does Home Deliveries

Ordering, receiving and savoring a steaming Caramel Macchiato without moving from your office chair is now possible … if you live in Seattle. This is because Starbucks has just announced the launch of a delivery service in its hometown, in partnership with Postmates. This pilot project allows users to order via the mobile app, pay by bank card, Apple Pay or their Starbucks card, provide their address, and sit back and await delivery.

Mobile Order and Pay Option

There’s a catch, however: The service costs the not-insignificant sum of $5.99, on top of which you have to add a tip, which is obligatory in the USA. So it’s better to place a group order. This new service offered by the Seattle giant completes the Mobile Order & Pay option, which became available this fall in 7,400 branches across America, as TechCrunch reports. This option allows users to order using the mobile app and pick up their order at a sales outlet, thus avoiding the monster lines often associated with Starbucks.

The partnership between Starbucks and Postmates is yet another example of the huge rise in home deliveries in the USA. In early October, Postmates launched Pop, an express delivery service. A few weeks later, it joined up with Etsy to deliver the latter’s manufactured goods.
