Trump, Prison and Insurrection

The route that could land former President Donald Trump in prison is already being established.

A group of FBI agents entered the former president’s home on Monday, Aug. 8. The Mar-a-Lago search warrant revealed probable cause that three possible crimes may have been committed: violation of the Espionage Act, obstruction of justice and destruction or concealment of evidence.

The judicial route would derail Donald Trump’s candidacy in the event he is found guilty. But Trump would not necessarily lose in the media. Today, we know that distrust has dethroned rational thought. People would revolt against the government every day if the world of Twitter were not that of fiction.

Nevertheless, Republicans are winning the battle for American public opinion. Two examples:

The news of the death of Ayman al-Zawahri was released on Aug. 1, a few hours before Nancy Pelosi set foot on the island of Taiwan. In fact, a drone was fired on the leader of al-Qaida on Saturday, July 30, but Joe Biden’s administration only made the event public in the last hours of Aug. 1.

If you change the time frame, had al-Zawahri been assassinated a few months after 9/11, the event would not have been overshadowed by Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan. But that was not the case. Pelosi’s trip detracted attention from what should have been a victory for President Biden, the assassination of al-Qaida’s No. 1 leader.

The second example has to do with the raid on Trump’s home. It took place last Monday, and Trump himself publicized the event over his social network. A day earlier, on Sunday, Aug. 7, the Democrats gave the green light to Biden’s economic package: $740 billion to achieve objectives with respect to climate change, prescription costs and taxes on large companies.

Trump beat Biden’s economic package when it came to public opinion.

An exclusive story from The Washington Post pointed to concern about nuclear weapons as the trigger for the raid on the former president’s home at Mar-a-Lago. Trump denied it and claimed that was a hoax.

Communication is one of Biden’s weaknesses. He proved this a few days before Pelosi visited Taiwan. The president said that the military frowned on what was then a potential visit by the House speaker to the island. Biden intended to distance himself from Pelosi’s decision, but China did not interpret it that way.

Democrats and half the world would rather not see Trump on the 2024 ballot. However, sending Trump to prison could bring the U.S. closer to an insurrection.
