The Russian Foreign Minister of Exterior Relations confirmed today that he hoped to meet with the new U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, before the G20 summit. “The details of the reunion will be administered by the ministers, “said the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, and quoted by the official agency Itar Tass.
Lavrov told a group of journalists that he spoke with Clinton before the conference call held yesterday by Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, and also with President Barack Obama. “The conversations were constructive. Both sides confirmed their interests in rebuilding US-Russian relations,” surmised the foreign minister. Lavrov added that both presidents will attend the G20 summit in London and was convinced that each will possibly speak personally.
According to the report issued yesterday by the Kremlin, in their phone conversation, Medvedev and Obama urged one another to take full advantage of potential bilateral relations and also stressed the importance of the situation in the Middle East and Afghanistan. The summit will take place in London the 2nd of the following April.
