Even a third grader in Cuba would laugh at the affirmation made by the United States, which retains our country on a list lacking evidence and fair-mindedness.
The North American government has announced new control proceedings for passengers originating in countries listed as “states sponsoring terrorism” and has added more countries to that list as a measurement taken after the failed attack on the airplane destined to Detroit on Christmas day. Currently, the American government lists Cuba, Iran, Sudan and Syria as countries “sponsoring terrorism.”
Barack Obama seemed more intelligent than that. He does not possess knowledge of the Cuban people. Few nations have suffered as much as Cuba from the blows of terrorism. At the same time, there are not many countries like Cuba that have maintained a firm, forward and integral position in face of the terrorism epidemic that threatens human survival.
Ever since custom’s carelessness and indifference to the information that security groups possessed led to the failed Al Qaeda attack on the North American flight, 14 countries have been distinguished and singled out by the White House. Passengers originating from these countries are projected to go through severe inspection.
Cuba is amongst those countries. Yet, this small island has not felt peace from violent attacks frequently initiated and carried out in Miami, often resulting in a high number of casualties. The brutal air disaster comes in mind, in which, under Posada Carriles’ command, a bomb exploded on a Cuban plane, taking 73 innocent lives.
Now it appears that Cubans are the terrorists. Cuba is a small and peaceful place, where people are not compelled to carry hidden guns in order to ensure their personal safety; it is a location where the schools, airports and public spaces are all areas of complete security. The idea of a terrorist Cuba inspires laughter and comic applause. Deliberating further into the issue, one will uncover the true havens for real terrorists and Cuba is not one of them.
For this reason, the Cuban Interests Section in Washington has ensured that “the island’s government is cooperating in the war against terrorism and has protested the inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries that, according to the United States, promote terrorism.”
The spokesman of this office in Washington, Alberto González, declared that his country “has complied, is complying and will continue to comply with the applicable international safety measures regarding terrorism,” and said that the Cuban people “do not recognize the moral authority of the U.S. government to certify the inclusion of Cuba and the Cuban people on such a list.”
Infiltrations, attacks and assassinations without mercy, are acts that have directly targeted the Cuban people. Such acts were staged by groups originating in the most powerful country, the prime place for the development of global terrorism.
All hostile and aggressive actions carried out against Cuba for the time period since the Revolution’s triumph until now have caused immense material and human loss and priceless suffering for the Cuban people.
Nevertheless, the United States government and all of its presidents, in one way or another, have proved themselves to be indifferent to acts that would cause the heart of any human being to tremble with compassion. Well, what else can be expected from a nation where there are 80 firearm deaths a day? And what about the war in Iraq? It is a representation of pure terrorism.
It is outrageous to accuse a country like Cuba of terrorism. Even on its home turf, the U.S. government has been challenged regarding this controversial issue. Washington Post columnist, Eugene Robinson ensured that “Cuba is not a failed state where swaths of territory lie beyond government control; rather, it is one of the most tightly locked-down societies in the world, a place where the idea of private citizens getting their hands on plastic explosives, or terrorist weapons of any kind, is simply laughable.”
It is a completely burlesque move when the U.S. tries to portray us as terrorists. Their information channels follow through by publicizing a ludicrous lie. A lie with not even one viable argument.
