American Democratic Example

On November 2003, 9 months after the American invasion of Iraq, former U.S. President George W. Bush declared that “Iraqi democracy will succeed.” This was perceived by many to be propagation for the “example” with which Bush justified America’s aggression on Iraq and a crowning to the deception of his administration. It turned out that this very administration, according to many writings and documents, was nothing but a gang of rogues and murderers who controlled the world’s superpower and used its capabilities and army to achieve their dirty goals as well as spreading their extremist right-wing schemes. As such, the American calls to found a democratic example in Iraq on the ruins of the “tyrant” regime of toppled late president Saddam Hussein were a pretext under which Iraq was occupied.

It is now no secret that Iraqis did suffer under the yoke of American colonialism of various doings including home invasion, privacy violations, property seizures, detainments of men, women and even children in addition to scandals of unprecedented types of torture [unknown even in the medieval centuries] in jails, disappearances of tens of thousands of Iraqis, sowing of sectarianism from the first political decision made to form the governing council, preferring one sect over the other and enabling Kurds to have an independent rule in the North with the aim of splitting Iraq into parts and excluding noble Iraqis under claims of their belonging to Baath party. Still, there also was the American siege on entire cities, annihilating them using forbidden weapons [like what happened in Fallujah], changing the demographic structure of Iraq to the benefit of specific sects, displacing hundreds of thousands of people to neighboring countries or anywhere else, demolishing security, education, health, agriculture, industry and other aspects of life and ripping the social, cultural and political fabric of Iraq. So, it becomes harder for any observer to argue about the return of the once called “state of Iraq” that enjoyed independence and unity before 2003.

As a result, new classes of politicians, rich ones who used this colonial era to make their wealth and influence grow, emerged. They possess money and power while holding the destiny of Iraq while sincere sons of this country are kept aside or even at bay. And so, the alleged “democratic example” of Iraq is brought about on the skulls of more than one million Iraqis, the total victims over the invasion’s seven years according to statistics.

Strangely enough, the elections of Sunday, March 7th, 2010 are deemed as a real victory for the American scheme in Iraq and an example to be followed by countries of the region. Yet, we need to know which victory is meant here and what this democratic project can be, considering most U.S. regional allies have military inclinations. Why does the U.S. not exert any type of pressure on her allies, even on a formal basis, to force them to adopt democracy? Can democracy be falsely built on the corpses, wounds, culture, security, integrity, and oppression of Iraqi people as well as on the usurpation of their country’s wealth, history and civilization, present and future? I do not know how minds and consciences can be convinced with these lies to the extent of propagating them!

In spite of the repression and autocracy practiced by America’s regional supporters, no American official showed up during these past few months or even years to tackle democracy in a given Arab country of a pro-U.S. regime. That is due to the fact that this, if it happened, could harm the interests of those allies who offer America more than it can be given by any regime it tailors for Iraq. Accordingly, the American plan goes as follows: the U.S. is to paint her Iraqi example as “legitimate” because Iraqis allegedly took part in making it. Then, “dissident allies” will be told that they shall be replaced by this example, already regarded as legitimate by American people, since the dissidents are illegitimate rulers who faked their victory and assumed power via the military coup d’états America backed or overlooked. In other words, the American rule will be “either to do what you are told or we will repeat the Iraqi example whenever and wherever we like!”

Finally, any talk about the establishment of a democratic regime in Iraq through these elections is a mere lie, just like Bush’s claims about WMD’s, the fib America made use of to justify her crimes in Iraq. If the U.S. wants to have democratic regimes in the region, all it has to do is to ask her allies of “timeworn” Arab tyrant rulers to let their people live freely and choose their regimes. Thus, these people should understand that their freedom cannot be secured by America or anyone else. They exclusively have the ability and will to restore their freedom; otherwise, they will eternally live under the illusions of American democracy.
