The question inevitably arises of knowing why the United States supports Israel unconditionally and to what extent this discriminatory support would be the cause of potential danger to American interests in the Arab world and even the destabilization of the Arab countries. Terrorist movements invoke the practice of a double standard in citing American policy to try to legitimize their acts of violence. What strategic interest would the continuing occupation of the Golan by Israel represent for the United States? What strategic interest is there to continue to support Israel unconditionally? Would Hamas and Hezbollah represent a threat to the United States or to world security, knowing that there are political armed parties that react only to events related to the occupation of their country and that, consequently, develop political ambitions more nationalist than international? It is certain that the American administration knows the answer to the question of how much unconditional support provided to Israel to maintain the occupation, while at the same time guaranteeing the operational military superiority of the armed Israeli forces, will jeopardize their own future interests. The United States knows, as well, that by beginning to use the right of veto to prevent the passage by the International Criminal Court to Israeli leaders found guilty of humanitarian crimes will only incite the hatred of Arabs. It is this biased policy that fuels the hatred of the Arab world and that defines the nature of the reactions of the oppressed. Neither Hamas nor Hezbollah nor any Arab country constitutes a threat to American interests in the region. But without the support of Washington, Israel would undoubtedly not have been uncompromising on the issue of the creation of a Palestinian state.
Les intérêts américains en péril
La question se pose inévitablement de savoir pourquoi les Etats-Unis soutiennent Israël sans conditions et dans quelles proportions ce soutien discriminatoire serait la cause de la mise en péril des intérêts américains dans le Monde arabe et même de la déstabilsatn des pays arabes, les mouvements dits terroristes invoquant la pratique de la politique américaine du deux poids, deux mesures, pour tenter de légitimer leurs actions de violence. Quel intérêt stratégique représenterait pour les Etats-Unis la continuité de l’occupation du Golan par Israël ? Quel intérêt stratégique pour continuer à soutenir inconditionnellement Israël ? Hamas et le Hezbollah représenteraient-ils une menace pour les Etats-Unis ou la sécurité dans le monde, sachant que ce sont des partis politico-armés qui réagissent uniquement pour des événements liés à l’occupation de leur pays et qui, en conséquence, développent des ambitions politiques plutôt nationalistes qu’internationales ? Il est certain que l’Administration américaine connaît bien la réponse à la question de savoir dans quelle proportion le soutien inconditionnel apporté à Israël pour maintenir l’occupation, et garantir en même temps la supériorité militaire opérationnelle des forces armées israéliennes, mettra en péril leurs propres intérêts futurs. Les Etats-Unis savent bien, également, qu’en s’engageant à user de l’exercice du droit de veto pour éviter le passage par la Cour pénale internationale aux dirigeants israéliens, reconnus coupables de crimes humanitaires, ne pourra que susciter la haine des Arabes. C’est cette politique partiale qui attise la haine de la rue arabe et qui définit la nature des réactions des opprimés. Ni le Hamas, ni le Hezbollah, ni aucun pays arabe ne constituent une menace pour les intérêts américains dans la région. Mais sans le soutien de Washington, Israël n’aurait sans doute pas été intransigeant sur la question de la création de l’Etat palestinien. B. M.
