United Nations: Killing of bin Laden a Victory over Terrorism
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Monday that the killing of Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaida, was a defining moment in the war against terrorism. He said that al-Qaida's crimes spanned most continents and resulted in the deaths of thousands of men, women and children. He added that the United Nations condemned in the strongest possible terms terrorism in all its forms, regardless of its goals and wherever it occurs.
He called bin Laden's death an occasion to remember the victims and their families in the United States and around the world, and stressed that the United Nations would continue to fight terrorism in cooperation with world leaders.
