The West Prepares for Revenge

The Syrian crisis has moved to a new stage of escalation. The regime continues to kill and sends tanks to regain places that were beyond its influence, such as a summer residence in Zadabani and other places that were seized by the Free Syrian Army. The Western countries, with the United States at the head of them, want to get their revenge after the U.N.’s failure. They are looking for other measures to protect the Syrian people and to spare their blood, as the Western countries’ leaders would say. Yesterday, the U.S. closed its embassy in Damascus. The Western countries are getting ready to expel Syrian ambassadors from their capitals and to summon their ambassadors from the Syrian capital.

The most dangerous move is what Nicolas Sarcozy, the president of France, and Angela Merkel, the chancellor of Germany, announced at a joint press conference. They declared that they are willing to form a new coalition called “The Friends of Syria,” just like the similar one with the exact same name that was formed before NATO forces entered Libya.

The American administration said that Russia and China, are gambling on a lost horse by vetoing the UN resolution that accepts the initiative of the Arab League, since the Syrian regime will collapse, and it is just the matter of time.

At the same time, an official spokesman, in the name of the foreign affairs of America, said yesterday that the ideal solution for Syria is a political solution. But he did not reject other choices, among them a military choice meant to change the regime that is accused of killing its people without mercy. So it is unknown if the arrival today in Damascus of Sergey Lavrov, the minister of foreign affairs for Russia, with Russian military intelligence is a helping step towards making this political solution easier or towards arranging the military intervention.

Everybody talks about political solutions concerning the Syrian regime, confirming that they object to starting a civil war in the country. But we don’t see even one step towards that direction except the increasing number of killed and slaughtered.

The civil war has started. The ministry of American defense spoke yesterday about getting reports that confirm corruption within the Syrian army and highly ranked soldiers among the separatists. If these reports are accurate, the number of victims is expected to rise in an alarming way, especially among civilians.

We are afraid that these reports will be an excuse for the regime to go straight ahead with security solutions, like what happened with the double veto of China and Russia; it gave the regime confidence and pushed it to commit a massacre in Homs while trying to end the rebellion.

We hope that the task of Lavrov in Damascus will be an embodiment of crushing demands from Arabs and the world to spare the bloodshed in Syria and to save the innocent from being killed. [Also, we hope he] convinces the Syrian regime to not be obstinate and solves the security problem facing the people and their right demands in a bloody way with democratic, lawful changes. But Russia and China will be accused of participation in aggravating the situation, and the country will fall more and more into the tub of blood that we witness today.
