The U.S. president is ready to declare war against Syria.
Russia cannot prevent the U.S. from declaring war on Syria, if President Barack Obama decides to do so. In this case, the mechanisms of the UN Security Council, as other international platforms, will be powerless.
There is no doubt that Washington is meticulously working through the possibility of a military invasion into Syria.
The head of the White House is extremely clear on this point. On Tuesday, he announced the terms whereby America would begin military operations against Damascus. It is not important what kind they will be — by land, air, or if this is pointing to specific operations by special forces. What is important is that Obama said for the first time when the war will begin and confirmed that he will not wait for the enabling resolution of the UN Security Council if he decides to use force.
In what situation will the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize (Obama won the prize in 2009) be prepared to bomb Syrian cities? This, by the words of the leader of the American government, will happen if Washington finds out information about the Syrian military relocating or using chemical or other weapons of mass destruction.
“We cannot have a situation where chemical or biological weapons are falling into the hands of the wrong people,” said the American leader clarifying his position.
However, after announcing the terms by which the White House is prepared to get involved in the Syrian conflict and circumventing the UN, Obama cracked open such important things for the Syrian opposition plans. Until now its leaders did not know what actions to take in order to “force” the West to military intervention. Now, after Obama’s announcement, it has all been made extremely clear. Any provocation with the use of chemical warfare agents, which can be blamed on Damascus, will be enough for the American military machine to act. Obama already gave the command. Even though it is not official, the Pentagon’s direction to prepare for an invasion into Syria was heard. There is no doubt that the wishes of the White House will be realized in the near future.
What is Obama accusing the Syrian army of? Is he accusing them of exporting chemical warfare agents to a safe place away from the combat zone? Is he accusing Damascus of fearing less than Americans that weapons of mass destruction will fall into the hands of the opposition, who fight for the side of many terrorist groups from the Arab East? They understand well in Damascus that the opponents of Assad will be allowed without hesitation to use biological and chemical weapons if they can catch him. In his turn, Obama talked about how the issue of “chemical and biological weapons is critical,” but by threatening the Syrian military, they are protecting a dangerous arsenal from the militia.
However, Obama is raising many other questions with his announcement. For example, why could the future of keeping weapons of mass destruction not be discussed in advance in the UN Security Council? Neither Russia nor Japan are interested in seeing these materials fall into the hands of terrorists, which means that the international community could have put together a collective plan of action in the case of the danger of Syrian weapons of mass destruction falling into the wrong hands. But Obama did not even look into the possibility of joint ventures with Russia and Japan.
Secondly, not a small question, who and by what criteria will they assess the situation in Syria to order an “X” for a U.S. invasion? It is clear that in preparing for this kind of operation American intelligence agencies can easily mislead the president. Just as they misled George W. Bush before the mission in Iraq, confirming that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. And now, based on inadequate information, the head of the White House would issue an order to attack Syria.
Finally, if American forces know so much about how these countries supply Assad’s opponents with weapons, why is nothing being undertaken against this type of contraband, threatening the stability of the entire region. Concerning the illegal weapon supply of Syrian opposition, a U.S. Department of State spokesperson announced exactly the following: “Other countries [other than the U.S.] have decided to go in another direction. We’ll let them speak for themselves.” Intelligence sources in many countries around the world warn that weapons supplied by the Syrian opposition against Assad will fall into the hands of radical Islamists. With the help of these weapons terrorists, without question, will try to get possession of even part of the chemical and biological arsenal that is under the protection of the Syrian army. But instead of fighting the weapon supply to terrorists in Syria, President Obama openly threatened the main protector of the weapons of mass destruction — official Damascus.
The impression is forming that the Pentagon worked out a plan a long time ago to invade Syria and is now only looking for a formal reason for its realization. Therefore, by Iraq’s example, the reason to go to war was well-established in the light a long time ago — the opposition’s possession of weapons of mass destruction. How to convince the U.S. president to give the order to start military operations against Damascus, from the viewpoint of American generals, is only paperwork.
