Of all the categories of voters that Donald Trump has insulted in his victorious, populist race for the Republican nomination, women and their big “no” represent his biggest obstacle. In large part, they hold the keys to victory in November’s presidential elections. While more than 61 percent of American female voters have stated that they intend to vote for Hillary Clinton, the Republican candidate launched his counterattack this weekend. He attacked his rival by reminding everyone of her husband’s escapades. “There is nobody that is worse with women than Bill Clinton,” he stated on Saturday during a meeting in Spokane, Washington. Weakened in his camp by the procrastination and reticence of various big names in the Grand Old Party, Trump, the presumed candidate for the Republican nomination, opened the battlefront for the reconquest of female voters. He hammered home that the Clintons could not lecture him about how he treats women. To weaken the Democratic candidate, he dug up her husband’s escapades, notably making reference to the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the young White House intern with whom Bill Clinton had a relationship. He stated, “She’s married to a man who was impeached for lying. He was impeached for lying about what happened with a woman. And she’s gonna take ads about little Donald Trump? I don’t know. I don’t think so.” Before calling the former first lady an “enabler,” like a good male chauvinist pig, he claimed, “Some of these women were destroyed, not by him, but by the way that Hillary Clinton treated them after everything went down.”
