How long can such a man put up with mockery from a small, Third World dictator who is propped up and equipped with weapons from accomplices near and far, and who keeps ignoring threats, rages and Twitter crises?

We know that Trump tends to feel personally insulted by any event, any person who does not bow before him. When Attorney General Jeff Sessions rightfully recused himself from the inquiries into possible political and financial relations with Russia (as he himself had a guilty conscience), the president hurled insults and abuse at him. He called him an idiot in private and publicly buried him under tweets revolving around the adjective “weak” — the gravest insult The Donald can throw.

That is exactly what Kim is doing to Trump; he is depicting him as a weakling, whose bark is worse than his bite. The experiments and the waste of ballistic missiles launched into the Pacific are provocations he employs in his cowardice, which is concealed by China’s triangulation game to humiliate the USA while pretending to keep North Korea in check. China’s goal is to demonstrate that, half a century after the Vietnam War, America still is that “paper tiger” described by Mao Zedong.

Kim Jong Un is betting everything on the helplessness of the U.S., on the impossibility of it launching a pre-emptive military attack. He is confident that he will be able to continue laughing in Trump’s face without consequences, other than a few verbal escalations and some harmless tweet storms.

However, every launched missile, every bomb that explodes underground in North Korea causes a piece of plaster to fall off the wall of the Trump narrative, of the myth of his implacable toughness. How long will the American president be able to accept this before Kim manages to demonstrate once and for all that he cannot be stopped? For Kim, this is “business,” as they say in the jargon of America’s Cosa Nostra. For Trump, this is becoming “personal.” It is no longer America that is being mocked by North Korea. It is Trump himself.

Nella vicenda di missili c’è un’incognita che nessuno può valutare all’orizzonte di una possibile guerra guerreggiata: è il “Fattore T”.

Oltre tutti i calcoli diplomatici, oltre le valutazioni strategiche, gli esperimenti nucleari, i lanci dimostrativi di missili, che ora anche la Corea del Sud spara per non mostrarsi intimidita, c’è un’incognita che nessuno può valutare all’orizzonte di una possibile guerra guerreggiata: è il “Fattore T”. Sono i sentimenti, le emozioni che il presidente Donald Trump deve provare di fronte al comportamento di Kim Jong-un che ormai apertamente si fa beffe di lui e lo ridicolizza.

Per quanto tempo uno uomo come “The Donald” che misura il mondo e le persone attorno a lui con il metro della propria vanità e della sconfinata autostima può continuare ad accettare che un dittatorello del Terzo Mondo puntellato e armato da complici vicini e lontani lo sfotta pubblicamente, ignorando minacce, sfuriate e crisi di tweet?

Trump, lo sappiamo, tende a prendere tutto quello che avviene, tutti coloro che non si inchinano a lui, come affronto personale. Quando il Segretario alla Giustizia Sessions si è, correttamente, chiamato fuori dalle indagini sui possiibli rapporti politici e finanziari con la Russia avendo lui stesso la coda di paglia, il Presidente lo ha coperto di insulti, lo ha investito di contumelie. In privato gli ha dato dell’ “idiota” e in pubblbico lo ha coperto di tweet imperniati attorno all’aggettivo “weak”, debbole, L’insulto più sanguinoso che The Donald possa lanciare.

Ed è quello che Kim sta facendo a lui, lo sta dipingendo come “weak”, come un debole che abbaia senza mordere. I suoi esperimenti e lo spreco di missili balistici lanciati nell’Oceano Pacifico sono provocazioni che adopera nella sua viltà, coperta dalla Cina che gioca alla triangolazione per umiliare gli Usa fingendo di tenere sotto controllo la Corea del Nord, per dimostrare, mezzo secolo dopo il Vietnam, che l’America resta quella “tigre di carta” narrata da Mao Zedong.

Kim Jong-un punta tutto sulla impotenza americana, sulla impossibilità di lanciare un’azione militare preventiva convinto di poter continuare a ridere di Trump senza pagare pegno, altro che qualche escalation verbale e qualche raffica di innocui tweet.

Ma ad ogni missile che parte, a ogni bomba che esplode nel sottosuolo coreano, un altro pezzo dell’intonaco si stacca dal muro della narrazione trumpista, dal mito della sua implacabile durezza. Fino a quano potrà accettarlo, il Presidente americano, prima che Kim riesca a dimostrare defitivamente che nulla potrà essere fatto per fermarlo? Per lui, per Kim, questo è “business”, come si dice nel gergo della Cosa Nostra americana. Per Trump sta diventando “personale”. Non è più l’America ha essere irrisa dalla Nord Corea È lui.
