American Democratic Party and Major Turning Points in Modern History

American Democrats! This marvelous party has ruled the United States throughout such dangerous periods as World War I and World War II, the establishment of NATO, the Korean War, the first and second Arab-Israeli wars, the Cuban Missile Crisis, American intervention in Vietnam in 1950 and expanded involvement in 1960, the victory of the Iranian revolution, the Iran-Iraq war, the Salafi Arab Spring, Islamic State rise to power in 2014, and now the Russian-Ukrainian war that will reshape the new world order — either with fiercer American control or a new multilateral system! These are among other events that have occurred during the era of the Democratic Party.

Is this a coincidence? Only 16 of America’s 46 presidents have been Democrats; about one-third.

Despite the party’s seemingly progressive and leftist policies, its dangerous and esoteric foreign and perhaps domestic policies indicate something else! We need to discuss the roots and connections of this dangerous party! It is a subject that requires considerable research.

One can summarize the differences between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party as follows:

The Republican Party leans toward right-wing politics and is traditionally associated with religious loyalists, fiscal conservatives and social conservatives. The Democratic Party represents liberals, intellectuals, the non-religious and socialists.

Republicans believe that the rich and the poor should pay the same taxes and oppose raising the minimum wage. Democrats believe in higher taxes for the upper class and lower taxes for the lower and middle class so the government can spend more on social programs. They also support raising the minimum wage.

Republicans oppose gun control, believe that anyone should be able to obtain a gun without registration, and strongly support the right to self-defense, while Democrats prefer more gun control laws.

Republicans support strict border controls and push for restrictions on immigration — particularly from certain countries. Democrats generally favor open immigration policies. They believe that there should be no restrictions and that anyone should be allowed into the country and granted asylum.

Republicans support private health care systems and believe that regulation of the national health care system should not be entirely in the hands of the government. Democrats support universal public health care.

Republicans emphasize the role of free markets and call for government non-interference in the economy. Democrats believe that the government should play a strong role in helping and supporting Americans by intervening in the public sphere and regulating business.

Republicans support intervention in other countries based on using its sovereign power to control international affairs, even with military force if necessary, while Democrats believe in asserting its influence in other nations but through negotiation and the use of soft power!

Both parties clearly support Israel, and both parties have used their veto power 42 times in favor of Israel since the United Nations was established in 1945.

The Democratic and Republican parties are the two major contemporary political parties in the United States. The current Democratic Party, which traces its origins to the Democratic-Republican Party led by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, was founded around 1828 by Andrew Jackson’s supporters, making it the oldest political party in the world!

The Democratic Party’s neoliberal philosophy combines notions of civil liberty, social equality and support for a mixed economy. Party members in Congress represent conservative, progressive and centrist wings. Corporate governance reform, environmental conservation, organized labor unions, maintenance and expansion of social programs, reasonable college tuition, universal health care, equal opportunity and consumer protection law are the core of the party’s economic agenda. As for social issues, it supports gay rights, criminal justice, immigration policy reform, stricter gun laws, abortion rights and marijuana legalization.
