Israel Policy: Lesson for Joe Biden in Michigan

Despite their victories in the Michigan primaries, Joe Biden and Donald Trump can’t be content.

Joe Biden and Donald Trump have something in common after all. They can’t be content despite their victories in Michigan primaries. The incumbent may not have to worry about competition from within the party, but Democratic voters of Arab descent taught him a lesson when they abstained from voting for him over his policy on Israel. And every vote matters in a swing state like Michigan.

Biden Has the Better Balance Sheet

Trump is experiencing something similar. His challenger, Nikki Haley, doesn’t have a chance at becoming the Republican nominee for president. But some of her supporters will not vote for Trump on Nov. 5. The small number of moderate Republicans could threaten Trump, too. That is important because the former president has not yet succeeded in decisively expanding his very loud fanbase.

So, Biden and Trump will not only need to win over their respective bases on Nov. 5; they will also have to win over the voters who remain undecided. Trump may be slightly ahead at this point. But Biden has the better balance sheet in the election. Still, even that is no guarantee.
