Ali Larijani, the head of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (speaker of the parliament), while calling the Iraqi security treaty “deceitful”, compared some paragraphs of the treaty to a “mirage.”

Mr. Larijani, who today (Monday) spoke to a group of reporters continued by saying that America wants to payoff the cost of their problems in Iraq through the “wallets of the people of this [Iraq] country."

The U.S.-Iraq security treaty, was signed by the prime minister's cabinet last week on behalf of Nouri al-Maliki and is now being examined by the Iraqi parliament for final confirmation. This treaty will constrain U.S. troops from leaving Iraq until 2011.

This comes at a time when Mr. Larijani believes that this treaty does not specify a date as to the time in which American troops are to withdraw from Iraq.

The speaker of the Iranian parliament again, by calling the Iraqi security treaty a mirage, said that “if the Iraqis give in to the treaty, they will have to rely on the Americans to provide assurance."

Due to the circumstances, Mr. Larijani stated that, “This bilateral agreement, before solving the problems of the Iraqis, is intended to solve the problems of the American government.”

Ali Larijani has criticized Nouri al-Maliki’s government in the past for signing the treaty by saying the treaty “contains consistent difficulties and flaws.”

The first document of the American/Iraqi Security treaty on behalf of this countryÂ’s (IraqÂ’s) government was signed two weeks ago. In order to be executed, this agreement needs to be enacted by the Iraqi parliament.

Muqtada Al Sadr, the leader of the Mahdi Army in Iraq, issued a statement stating that he wants representatives of the Iraqi parliament to restrain from approving and confirming this treaty.

The agreement, not only specified the date in which the American troops will be leaving Iraq, on the contrary, it created new limitations for U.S. military operations in Iraq, and requires U.S. troops, until the 30th of January of next year, to leave city regions.

The current presence of American soldiers in Iraq is based on a United NationsÂ’ resolution which comes to an end on the 31st of December.
