Last night, National Chairman Hu Jintao received a phone call from American President Bush.

Hu Jintao and Bush congratulated each other for 30 years of successful Sino-American relations, and wished that the 30 year anniversary of the establishment of Sino-American diplomatic ties would go well.

Hu Jintao supported Bush's positive appraisal of the Sino-American relationship and expressed his appreciation of Bush's commitment to developing a constructive, cooperative Sino-American relationship. Hu Jintao stressed that, in the new historical period, China and America would, through joint efforts, be able to firmly steer the relationship toward promoting healthy and stable Sino-U.S. relations and comprehensive, in-depth development.

Bush said that in the past 30 years, China and the U.S. have entered into a positive partnership that deserves to be celebrated. "I have been very happy, as the American president, to have worked so well with Chairman Hu."

On the Middle East situation, Hu said that China expresses its concern at the turmoil in the Gaza Strip and is deeply concerned about the humanitarian crisis.
"We hope that the parties would immediately stop military operations and armed conflict, to promote the alleviation of the situation to create the conditions for the settlement of disputes through peaceful means."
