Why Do America and the WestHave a Double StandardRegarding Human Rights?

If the rape case of Mukhtaran Mai came to light, then the American and European media would, along with international human rights organizations, act with their utmost power and capability. The act of the Israeli military ruthlessly trampling the dead body of an innocent Palestinian child with their boots while the whole world witnesses the scene on the TV screens, however, would not have even the smallest effect on the ears of America, Europe, the UN and the international human rights organizations. There is a great need to ponder on this question to thinkers of America and the European countries over where their dual standard regarding human rights would lead mankind?

There is also need to ponder this question: What were the causes which led to the Israel and Hamas conflict? It is a universal fact that the elections conducted in Palestine were democratic and the Palestinians gave their mandate to Hamas by utilizing their voting rights. However, as the results were announced, America and Israel refused to accept it. Also, nobody has claimed any type of irregularities in the election, while the reason given for their refusal is disbelief that an extremist organization obtained the ruling mandate. There is no doubt that the views of Hamas are more extreme than that of al-Fatah. However, now the question is how can anyone bulldoze the public mandate merely on this trivial basis? Rather than searching for ways to find a solution to the Palestinian crisis with bilateral talks, the issue raised by America and the European countries was that why the Palestinians offered the ruling power to Hamas? And thus Palestinian financial support was stopped and obstacles were created to avoid Hamas from taking charge of the government. Hamas leader Ismail Haniya started receiving death threats, followed by America and company enacting a financial boycott of Palestine as a punishment to the innocent Palestinians for mandating Hamas as the ruling power. Despite this hostility by America and the Western countries, Hamas started to show a fluctuation in its extreme opinions and views after assuming power, and it has also demonstrated an awesome capacity for tolerance and endurance.

The attitude of Hamas was obviously reflected in its sincerity to solve the Palestine issue. Hamas also expressed an interest having international powers intervene and by implementing the UN resolution to have the Israel-Palestinian conflict solved with themselves as the mediator. However, America and its alliances take the compromising stand of Hamas as its weakness; they started their attempts to tighten the grip around it further. Thus, since Hamas first took charge of the government to now, they keep disturbing the government through Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas with all possible means.

There would not be any better proof in showing the dual standards of America and Western countries than that at the time when Israeli tanks were continuously bombing Palestinian civilians and the Israeli land army engaged indiscriminately in the bloodshed of Palestinian children, women and other innocents, but rather than showing Israeli brutality in the Gaza strip, all the leading America and Western TV channels were busy broadcasting the news that India had handed over the proof linking Pakistani authorities to the Mumbai attack. At this time, the media did not have the opportunity to see what evidence was given by Indian authorities to Pakistani authorities. We have faced intolerable hostility from India, from FATA and from Baluchistan in the form of its conspiracies though her active agents in the region. We also have strong evidence supporting of our claims. Despite this, we did not raise the war hysteria against India, as we follow the policy of “Live and let live.”

The way in which America and Western countries have given license to killing innocent Palestinians means that they have to face possible consequences for such brutality and their irresponsible manners. Currently, Muslim nations all over the world are going through a great depression and mental agony due to developments in the Muslim world.

So it is high time that America and other Western countries ponder the fact that the depression among Muslim youths may lead them to adopt paths which may have disastrous consequences.
