What Stupidity!

American congressman and Republican lawmaker for South Carolina Jeff Duncan has managed to get a majority of Republicans in the House of Representatives to pass a legal reform with the aim to order the Department of State to make a strategy to oppose the influence of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Latin America, especially in Ecuador, Bolivia and Venezuela, which have economic connections between each other, in a period of 180 days.

What stupidity! Typical of people blinded by arrogance and that imperial mentality they have that prevents them from admitting that countries using their sovereignty can have relations with whoever they want, as has been correctly stated by Ecuadorian chancellor Ricarco Patiño Aroca. That stupidity prevents them from admitting that our republics are sovereign and independent, as determined by the instruments and agreements of International Law; as declared in the San Francisco Charter that gave birth to the United Nations; and as has been confirmed by the Constitutional Law, above all in the countries that make up our America.

Ambassador to Washington in Quito Adam Namm recently declared that “the United States may consider breaking its commercial relations with Ecuador because of its links with Iran.”* This statement of his is being regarded as unacceptable coming from a diplomat.

How could the Department of State or the American government take a risk in making a new interventionist “strategy” to avoid our relations with Iran, a country of ancient traditions and culture, apart from the statement made by Nan?

One might expect President Obama, who is an intelligent man, a jurist and an expert on the principles of the Law of Nations, to not pass such a resolution from the Republicans that entails dangers and threats that are easy to suppose.
