Devilishness of the Islamists and US Policies

It is ridiculous to try connecting the Islamists’ scheme with the United States and to say that the latter is strongly supporting a scheme to topple the legitimate and illegitimate regimes in the Arab and Islamic world.

It is known to both educated and uneducated people that the Zionist regime is the only continuous ally in American policy, and that America worships only one idol: its interests.

Some of us come up with baseless charges; the only evidence is that the Islamists attained power after the Arab Spring uprisings! Just to connect the Islamists attaining power and U.S. acceptance, or to refer to some meetings and some visits as clear American support, is absurd. Most visits and announcements were of no value, as we all know that America would not leave its stepchild, the Zionist entity, alone among conservative Islamic governments.

Our countries still have relations with the United States; even we [Bahrain] have American military bases on our land. However, the U.S. ambassador in Bahrain is sabotaging the political situation here. Could we say that the Bahraini government is involved with America in betraying the people of Bahrain?

For decades during the dictatorial regimes in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Yemen, and even today in the Arab Gulf Cooperation Countries, for example, we have been trying to convince America that democracy in our region should have its own form and that America has to accept that; otherwise a cataclysm would drag away the interests, the benefits and the fleets.

Most of our countries have contracts worth billions of dollars with the United States for buying weapons and aircraft. Why don’t we swaggeringly accuse our governments of being agents for America?!

The Islamist movements have successfully attained power due to the will of their people, not because of America, despite the fact that their performance has not been acceptable to many.

Through history, the United States has succeeded in exploiting the countries in our region and their leaders. Once, President Franklin Roosevelt was asked why the United States was supporting a leader of a dictatorial regime. He said, “He may be a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch.”*

After the Islamists assumed power in Egypt, didn’t we hear from the floor of the U.S. Senate that the United States was facing a historical defeat that would jeopardize its interests in Egypt? Didn’t they vocally support the liberal voice in Egypt in order to restore the objectives of the January revolution as they see it from their own perspective? Didn’t they make the commitment that they would work hard to ensure that the setback of the Islamists assuming power would not continue?

America does not care whether the Islamists or others are in power, but it will not hesitate to reap the fruits of the outcomes, it will not hesitate to kick away its allies if it feels those allies are threatened or about to fall and it will not hesitate to threaten or topple any regime that endangers its interests.

It is pointless trying to connect the Islamists and America; what we see is that America is supporting radical Shia movements — affiliated with Iran — in Iraq. We see the collusion between America and the dishonest international community against Syria and instability in Egypt. This is what Mr. ElBaradei revealed in his interview with The New York Times on Thursday: “We have made great efforts to convince the West that Morsi must go.”

Furthermore, today America started getting rid of its Arab allies in the Persian Gulf as that romantic relationship with our countries is coming to an end. What is happening on the ground is a fact that we can’t deny or ignore.

The problem is that some of us, because we hate the Islamists, are confused. The poem of the Islamic scholar Imam Alshafi reflects the situation:

The eye of acceptance is blind to see any flaw
But the eye of anger can point out all minor mistakes.

This is neither fair nor wise.

Trying to show the devilishness of the Islamists and connect them with Iran at some times, with violence at other times, and with America on a third occasion, are all charges raised by our Arabic and Islamic regimes in past decades. But why do we make all this senseless uproar?
