According to a U.S. official, missile attacks may be launched against Syria at any time and could continue for three days. America would launch the attacks in cooperation with its allies. On the other side, Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the military to launch an attack on Saudi Arabia in the event that Syria is attacked by Western countries. Russia has also sent aircraft to Syria for evacuating its citizens.
A chemical weapons attack in the suburbs of Damascus on Aug. 21 is being used as justification for teaching Syria a lesson. The opposition alliance, which is fighting Bashar al-Assad's government, has claimed that the attack killed 1,300 individuals. These claims were put forward when U.N. inspectors had just arrived in Syria to investigate allegations of the use of chemical weapons. It is not clear so far whether chemical arms were used by the Syrian government or it is a drama enacted by the rebels to provide justification for an attack on the government. The Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi has said that it was the rebels that used the toxic gas at the behest of the West. Supporters of the rebels appear eager to launch an attack on Syria.
British Prime Minister David Cameron said he was giving thought to serious action against Syria. NATO Secretary General Rasmussen said that Syria's use of toxic weapons cannot go unanswered. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has called for decisive action against Syria. A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State said that Syria will not be allowed to take cover behind a Russian veto in the Security Council.
The danger of starting a world war through a U.S.-led attack on Syria without proper investigation cannot be dismissed, as already threatened by Russia. It's as though international elephants wish to trample the Islamic countries in their war.
Saudi Arabia is the center of faith of the Islamic world; aggression against it will not be tolerated by the Ummah. The U.S.-led coalition should give considered thought to taking action against Syria. Instead of acting in haste, unbiased investigations should be undertaken to ascertain if it was, in fact, the Syrian government that used the toxic gas.
