The Truth Has Its Time

The United States is not the enemy of Venezuela, nor that of democracy, liberty, or human rights. [It is] quite the opposite. [Even] with faults and circumstantial errors, it has been a model of loyalty, with principles and values we share.

In saying this I wish to point out that I do not have jingoistic complexes regarding Americans. Essentially, I consider them first-rate allies against the common threats that affect us.

To make no mistake, I repeat what I have said in various circumstances. The real enemy of Venezuelans is the regime that governs under the direction of the duo of Nicolás Maduro and Diosdado Cabello. I will let the evidence speak for itself. The national majority is very much in agreement with the conclusions of multiple ongoing analyses. The ordinary Venezuelan citizen has the same perception, both in reference to the aforementioned duo and in relation to the view that he or she has of the U.S. Everything else is false.

Rotten lies are what they are trying to sell with billion-dollar advertising campaigns, threats, and appeals to physical and institutional violence to silence the truth and cover up the heap of scandals by eminent representatives of the regime. Everything has been discovered gradually, and there are still things that are not yet known. The regime, far from taking on its responsibility, investigating and penalizing, tries to hide [its responsibility]. It criminally appeals even to elementary school children to manipulate them to serve as accessory [as in aiding a crime] interests. It is unacceptable.

Millions of dollars are spent in the regime to project an artificial image [that is] far from reality, but fueled by a few increasingly scarce petrodollars. We have kept track of the proceedings of Ernesto Samper and the special meetings of USAN and ALBA [Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America], and Raúl Castro’s presence in Caracas. We have also kept an eye on the extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of the OAS, scene of the [famous,] foolish Ambassador Chaderton and Minister of Foreign Relations of Venezuela.

These protagonists of comic opera are an embarrassment to themselves and to others, presenting us as victims of the U.S., [who wants] to “steal our oil,” as if no one knew that the U.S. is the best client and main purchaser that the country has for a product that it practically no longer requires, with its basic needs covered.

In addition to the specific cases mentioned, the Venezuelan regime is a threat to the U.S., the rest of the [neighboring countries], and the world, given the links between drug trafficking and global terrorism, including Islamic extremism.
