Certain facts
"I do not know! Is Condoleezza Rice, the American Secretary of State a naïve diplomat despite her widely known "genius" in foreign affairs, or is she just trying to falsely claim American intentions to solve the Palestinian issue?"
That was the question I asked myself when she stated, after attending the Pacific Summit in Peru, that any peace agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians will not be reached by the end of this year, as Bush promised, due to the political row in Israel!
Does she not know that the disputes she referred to are being studied so that American officials will not find an Israeli administration that will decisively settle the Israeli-Palestinian matter to an agreement?
More frankly, when the Israelis found that Bush wanted to end his presidency with resolving the nagging issue of the Middle East, they fabricated the financial and moral accusations fastened to their premier, Ehud Olmert (by the way, with his consent) to reduce him to a commissioned prime minister, until the elections are called for at the start of the coming year. At this time, Obama should have assumed the president's chair. And the same scenario unfolds: the Jewish lobby will convince him not to take any decisions in relation to the Palestinian matter, because it is not pressing. The American president will ignore it for years and if he takes any actual steps, Israel would postpone them until his term ends.
Now Ehud Olmert asks, after leaving his office, that the "Palestinians should be given some of their rights" and Tsibi Livni, one of the candidates for prime minister hastened by replying that, "Olmert's personal views mean nothing to the new administration." Like him, Rice declares, among other things, that Israel can strengthen Palestinian development, abide by the terms of the road map, facilitate the movement of Palestinians and build their institutions.
Where was your voice Ms. Rice to say all of this when you were at the height of your power [as Secretary of State]? And now as you are on the verge of handing over the keys, you give foreign attention for some Palestinian demands as an attempt to make up for time lost?
Is this political naivete or just attempts to leave a good impression after the shameful eight years of Bush?
