Obama:A New American Attitude.
At the start of his inauguration ceremony when he took the oath of office, the new American president, Barack Hussein Obama, addressed the world with an unprecedented attitude. Rising against the measures and views of his predecessor, George W.Bush, he attempted to remind the world of America’s positive image and bridging the split Bush and his conservative administration caused by the failure foreign policies based on the arrogance of power.
In his address, Obama broke new ground in offering hope of a brighter future for Americans and other peoples, as well as showing concern for two issues at home: the means to overcome the disastrous economical impasse that dealt a severe blow to America and other countries, and his country’s determination not to barter its security by letting the basic principles of America’s founders slip away: respecting the law and human rights.
Now, the time has come when the American leadership perceives that power alone cannot protect America, nor give it the right to do whatever it likes.
Still, and in respect to international issues, Obama reiterated that he would pull troops back from Iraq and lend the Islamic world a hand based on common interests and mutual respect, apparently in a tone different from that of a former administration that was used to creating a link between Islam and terrorism.
The world really rejoiced at Obama’s election as president, believing he would trace back the path of the values that his country taught to the world: equality, freedom and democracy, no matter what the race, creed or color when he was sworn in as the first black and son of an immigrant ever to become the president of the country, taking the helm of the world’s ship.
Presently, everyone is expecting Obama, full of zeal, to enact foreign policies guided by justice, collaboration and common interests rather than power and muscle. The Islamic and Arab worlds are waiting to see how much he would be creditable when it comes to the Middle East: the Arab-Israeli conflict and taking sides with one party at the expense of the other. Yet, no one is ignorant of the fact that Obama took it upon himself during his electoral campaign to guarantee the support of Israel and maintain its security, something he cannot help but achieving. That is because the fingers weaving the American political system have worked in the past few decades to create uniformity between the interests of the U.S. and Israel. However, he can still push the march of peace and allow the Palestinians their rights in an independent state, encompassing Gaza and the West Bank and taking Jerusalem as its capital. Only then, will Israel live in peace.
Obama is also expected to help annihilate the terrorism and violent problems resulting from the gap between the very rich countries and the abjectly poor ones and contribute in keeping a clean environment.
In conclusion, it was the new inhabitant of the White House who gave us a free hand to hope, make wishes and develop expectations that he would not be a disappointment to us.
