Dishonest American Broker and Israeli Dinosaur: The Spectacle Darkens

The seasonal Arab summit will take place at Damascus before the end of the current month and could return to subjects touched on in previous sessions. We hope that the participants do not speak of peace because this slogan no longer presents itself as a reality. Israel, under the direction of Ehud Olmert, returns to the imposition of force as a solution, as they have done in the past.

The participants at the Damascus summit have to follow up on the Arab crises and elaborate on a strategy for the Iraqi situation, which risks spilling over the Iraqi borders, as they did with the Lebanese crisis suspended by regional and international circumstances. What is the opinion for example, of Arabs in the American-Iraqi-dialogue concerning Iraq? Isn’t it an undertaking dependent on their interests and their security?

Where is Lebanon and why is it still without a president –its people having been tugged at by the obsessions and fears of the future? And where is Palestine? It has been divided into Fatah Land and two “Hamas”, while the conflict is ignited, Israel watching for its turn.

The Israelis have determined the rules of the game from the beginning of the confrontation: terrorism in all its forms, such as were presented by Vladimir Jabotensky, first master, and the agenda of David Ben Gourion. Then the chain continued with the projection of Jewish colonization in Israel.

There is no doubt that the perplexity and chaos in the Middle East spectacle from Gaza to Bagdad and Mossoul and the management of the conflict are no longer under the control of all the players, at the front of which are the out-moded Americans It is no longer acceptable to speak of the “ Iraqi swamp,” Palestine being the barometer of the conflict and the thermometer allowing us to measure the temperature. What appeared several weeks ago as “a light at the end of the tunnel” proves to be a “new mirage,” which does not displease Colin Powell and certain promoters of Arab initiatives. Where are the American guarantees of the “roadmap” so that flexibility is the title of action? And will there be anything else on the horizon other than the Israeli engagement to remove the band; then its reoccupation in the frame of a plan to ease the burden by entrusting an Egyptian batallion of 750 soldiers the task of filling the gap?

It is the process of Oslo and the temptation to impose the Israeli solution under American pressure, the international complicity and the Arab powerlessness, which demands the reinforcement of Palestinian resistance. Based on the fact that their loyalty to the United States has been one of the causes that favors the emergence of this type of fundamentalism, as the old State Department official Richard Armitage has noticed. It has been established up to this point that there is currently no other Arab option save peaceful diplomacy which cannot stop the “Sharonian” wall nor refrain any tank that threatens to destroy the cities of the band. It is equally incapable of cooling down the tensions in Iraq. The complicity between the little America which is Israel and the Big Israel which is America is flagrant, as the late Edward Said repeatedly.

The deployment in Palestine could reattach itself to that family going from Dijibouti to Afghanistan. But what prevents this solution, is the American electoral campaign. In the climate of this term, Congress transforms itself into another “Knesset” strongly opposed to pressure on Israel. However, Senator Logard, president of the commission of foreign relations, insists on international forces, in spite of the electoral situation.

The current moment is embarrassing on an Arab level, certain regimes having becoming aware of the danger after the collapse of American security valves in Iraq. The fact for the Palestinians fight with their backs to the wall, seems like a situation to liquidate their cause by means of the intervention of the American entrepreneur and the Israel dinosaur. There are three rewards which no US president has formerly offered to the Hebrew state; the practical elimination of the Palestinian state valid in the shadow of the colonization of Trans-jordan, the consecration of Jerusalem as eternal capital of Israel and the exclusion of the right of return for refuges.

There is no doubt that we are faced with an American reversal against the Arabs, in the first place; then against their allies and friends. Ehud Olmert who participated at the first setback after 57 years, under the colors of Haganah and Palmakh, keeps himself now behind the barricade of refuge, considering that speaking at the negotiating table before reducing the Palestinian resistance, is equivalent to capitulation and defeat. From that is evident the deepness of his opposition to approach any political aspect of the crisis. He keeps himself to the Zionism of Jabontensky against propositions of Hertzel. In other words, he only believes in violence, believing Samarian Judea to be an integral part of biblical Israel. His proposals on the Palestinian state are a smoke bomb while his army has destroyed the infrastructure and the nucleus of the future state. He could prepare himself, progressively, for the project of transfer. Can one, in the shadow of these given facts, speak of a settlement and of peace at the summit of Damas? Isn’t this out of the question?
