Yesterday the United Socialist Party of Venezuela gave form to a global campaign demanding the revocation of Barrack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize because they consider him a warmonger, as reported by the Cuban agency Latin American Press.
According to the group composed of more than seven million citizens, the first African American head of the White House is quite far from deserving the award, which was founded in 1901 and has been presented to 95 people and 20 organizations.
“We believe there should be a review of the acknowledgment. It is a duty of the progressive countries to request it,” assured Jacqueline Fario during the announcement of the initiative.
According to Faria, the Commission of International Affairs of the Bloc has the mission of prompting the crusade.
“The justification for the war in Afghanistan, the deployment of new occupying troops to the Central Asian country and the establishment of military bases in Columbia and Panama constitute arguments for demanding the annulment of the Nobel. It would be necessary to add to this the position he took at the climate change summit in Copenhagen, where he acted as a strategist of only war,” she pointed out.
Faria recalled the U.S. pretension to impose an exclusive pact destined to save the planet – a pact lacking concrete action to advance the mitigation of greenhouse gases that are responsible for the rise in global temperature. Obama has neglected his promises of peace and change. The PSUV notice included a request to distance the U.S. president from the Prize in honor of previous recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize.
