American Aid to Syrian Rebels: Le Figaro Announced It March 1

The CIA and American Special Forces have been training Syrian rebels in Jordan and Turkey for months, well before the White House announced its intention to increase its “military” aid to the opposition, reports the Los Angeles Times.

This information was published March 1 in Le Figaro and on this blog with the title “U.S. Special Forces Train Syrian Rebels in Jordan.” Here is what a French soldier reported to us.

A French military source in the Middle East has informed us that American instructors are training rebels in the Free Syrian Army (FSA) who have crossed the border into Jordan. “They have been organizing, leading, and giving advice to Syrian insurgents since the end of last year,” continues our source.

The members of the U.S. Special Forces participate in this training so as to strengthen the capacity to act of those who oppose Bashar al-Assad. These rebels are indeed struggling to face the Syrian army’s aerial superiority. British and a handful of French Special Forces are also helping the Syrian rebels.

The U.S. Special Forces deployed in Jordan are also “infiltrating Syrian territory” in order to keep an eye on the regime’s chemical weapons. Their dispersion to the hands of jihadists or the pro-Iranian Hezbollah in Lebanon is not only a grave cause for concern for Israel and the United States, but it is of equal concern for Bashar al-Assad’s ally, Russia.

We revealed that Delta units of the U.S. Special Forces were deployed in Harissa to the north of Beirut. The official reason for this deployment was to train their Lebanese counterparts. However, in reality, these Delta units are also infiltrating Syrian territory.
