Barack Obama Is Deluding Himself – Disengagement Will Not Stop Terrorism

At 8:46 a.m. on Sept. 11, the bells of New York churches remembered the attack on the twin towers and Pentagon, just as they have done every year since the first anniversary in 2002. The ritual commemorations range from Obama’s minute of reflection in Washington to talks with the victims’ families at the field in Pennsylvania where the fourth diverted airplane landed thanks to the heroism of its passengers who stopped it from reaching the White House. But that date does not constitute one single moment in history, like Pearl Harbor did. Islamic terrorism was not born that day, and today, Sept. 11, 2015, it is still making headlines. The day before yesterday, the FBI arrested Joshua Ryne Goldberg, 20, in Florida. He was accused of planning a bomb explosion at the memorial of the attack in Kansas City, Missouri — in “celebration” of its 14th anniversary — and of distributing information on the Internet about how to create explosives and weapons of mass destruction. If found guilty, he could get 20 years in jail.

Islamic terrorism is more alive than ever, and Obama is dangerously deluded if he thinks that looking in the opposite direction is the best way of making peace with those declaring war on you. History teaches us that much. The Palestine Liberation Organization’s attack on the Israeli team at the Monaco Olympics took place in 1976, and Fatah and Hamas then killed thousands in Israel and across the world. The Iranian theocracy came to power at the end of the ‘70s, and the government of ayatollahs (which took dozens of Americans hostage for 444 days in the U.S. embassy in Tehran) has always supported terrorism. Al-Qaida made an attempt on the World Trade Center skyscrapers in 1993 with a truck, Osama [bin Laden] declared war on Clinton’s America at the end of the ‘90s, and in 2001 carried out the most destructive attack. George Bush declared the war on Islamic terrorism and increased vigilance. The CIA did not forget about bin Laden until it had eliminated him. Obama — a pacifist by ideology — has denied the existence of Islamic radicalism, refusing to call it by its name. Yet, he used the killing of bin Laden to get re-elected, claiming in 2012 that “the tide of war is receding.” Yet, the Islamic soldier who carried out a massacre on his fellow soldiers in Texas, the Boston marathon bombs, and the attacks on London, Madrid, Paris, suggest the Islamist extremists — of al-Qaida or the Islamic State — are forever in a war against Western infidels.

The repression of people in Syria under Assad’s genocide — supported by Russia and Iran — has opened up space for the caliphate of the Islamic State group, which today has bases from Libya to Afghanistan, gathering followers all over the world. It is Obama’s disengagement that bears rotten fruit: withdrawing from Iraq, Yemen and Libya (where he “led from behind” and left the country in chaos); he proclaimed “America is coming home and staying out of other people’s civil wars.”* Stupid illusions: Having abdicated from the role of guardian of the Middle East, he worsened the civil war in Syria and the persecutions in Iraq — the cause of the biblical exodus to Europe and the U.S., where the government has now decided to welcome 10,000 refugees. How many will be infiltrators affiliated to al-Qaida or the Islamic State group? Obama has closed his eyes to Islamic terrorism abroad and now certainly has a humanitarian crisis (refugees must be welcomed) and a more than probable risk of taking in enemies, as if the “lone wolves” in Florida weren’t enough.
