Donald Trump represents the most realistic chance for the extreme right to gain the presidency of the only superpower in the world. In times of crisis and fear, what is needed are people with clear ideas! Well here he is, the man who could become the next president of the USA, the multimillionaire Donald Trump, tired of “political correctness” (he said it yesterday, without mincing words). A person who stopped the bullshit, tired of discussions about racism, discrimination against women, and the dignity and equality of human cultures. Crap! It’s been 80 years since, in the aftermath of a world war, we were faced with a revolutionary wave that threatened the whole world. We have not seen such transparent ideas coming from the mouth of a candidate for world leader since then.
1. “America First!” The world has global problems and the United States, of its own volition, is involved in almost all of them? Trump promises to put “America First!” “‘Americanism, not globalism’ will be our credo,” he said yesterday in a speech accepting the presidential nomination for the Republican Party. The USA, which claims to have the right to interfere in all significant conflicts and in the most relevant political and economic processes on a global scale, might end up having a president who wants to put the USA’s interests (what Trump thinks they are) in front of everything else, more than it has already done. U.N., NATO and EU and other lesser actors, prepare yourselves!
2. “The Candidate of Law and Order” “The attacks on our police, and the terrorism in our cities, threaten our very way of life.” Clearly violence is a serious problem in North American society, and Trump could have spoken of the 1,134 African-Americans killed there by the police just in 2015 (five times more than whites); or the 372 mass shootings perpetrated in the past year, the 13,286 dead and the 26,819 wounded (data from the U.N.), in a proportion 30 times greater than that of the same year in Great Britain, for example, and much much higher than the number of victims of terrorism in France and the USA.
3. Uncomplicated Racist. But no, the problem is not the proliferation of arms – on the contrary, Trump prides himself on his support of the arms lobby, the National Rifle Association. The problem is that “illegal immigrants are roaming free to threaten innocent citizens.” “Build the wall! Build the wall!” yell the delegates to whom the multimillionaire speaks. It was a year ago that the man summed up what he thought of Mexican immigrants: “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” Clearer ideas could not exist. …For those who support him, such as the sheriff of Milwaukee,** immigrants, blacks and terrorists are more or less the same thing. “Before long,” he [the sheriff] tweeted in October 2015, “Black Lies [sic] Matter [whom he calls the “liars” of Black Lives Matter] will join forces with ISIS to [bring] down our legal constituted republic.” Remember the “Axis of Evil.” [For Trump], this is today’s.
The world of Trump is contaminated by the old convictions of members of “White Supremacy”: “We [the whites] are going to be a minority. If we ceased all immigration tomorrow, we’d still become a minority,” said Richard Spencer, the new president of the National Policy Institute and past editor of The American Conservative, who is a mouthpiece of American right wing conservatives. “So we need a radical reorientation, and we need a new consciousness, to determine what we want.” Where to start? With the U.S. Declaration of Independence, which makes Spencer want to “vomit.” “The idea that a ‘creator’ made all human beings equal? That’s ridiculous… The idea that we would dedicate ourselves to something as stupid as ‘equality’ or ‘democracy’ is morally insulting to me.”
4. A Multimillionaire Who Is the Voice of the People. The 121st richest American says he wakes up “everyday… determined to deliver a better life for the people all across this nation that have been ignored, neglected and abandoned… I am your voice.” In one of those anti-intellectual tirades normally echoed from the far right, the oldest son of Trump uttered this: “We didn’t learn from MBAs (Masters of Business Administration degrees). We learned from people who had doctorates in common sense.” The Senate Republican leader,*** in imitation of a prayer, guaranteed that “…to all those left behind by economic forces out of your control – we hear you. To those attacked for your beliefs – we hear you! To a nation that sees chaos spreading across America and across the globe – we hear you.”
In a society founded on economic and ethnic inequality, where wealth is the ultimate aim of life, a narcissist who hates African-Americans and Latino Americans, who puts down and offends women, who made a fortune off millions of workers, now comes to promise – as did the millionaire Berlusconi, tax cheater and corrupter of judges – to defend the defenseless entering into “…the political arena so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people who cannot defend themselves. Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it.”
