Americans Shocked by Marge Simpson's Lesbian Kiss
The world's most conservative TV star did the impossible Sunday night. Marge Simpson passionately kissed another woman on the lips. Conservative and lesbian America rejects the most popular animation series.
Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, likes to get under your skin. A few years ago he brought half the country up in arms when Patty, Marge's sister, chose a woman. Conservative America thought that by doing this the animation series promoted something that was wrong. The gay community in turn felt their sexual orientation marginalized in the cartoon.
But the inventor of Homer and company is unfazed. And so last Sunday more lesbian love graced the series. At the end of the most recent episode—appearing later in our country—Marge kissed a girlfriend intensely on the mouth. Is this the end of her relationship with Homer? Not at all. The scene is part of a dream sequence of Homer fantasizing about his wife and her best friend.
Conservative and prudish America finds this scene unacceptable. "This promotes a false lifestyle," someone commented on a forum. One gay forum called it "aggravating," but for different reasons. "This scene must have been written by a man. It teaches children that relations between women only serve to arouse men. Women's homosexuality is thus entirely ridiculed."
