Republicans Launch Agenda

The Republican House Minority leader put the strengthening of border security in order to decrease drug cartel violence and illegal immigration among their top priorities in their agenda, which was released yesterday. They are starting this campaign to regain the majority in Congress in the November elections.
In a ceremony held at the door of a hardware store in the town of Sterling, Va., the Republicans revealed their top political priorities. They “pledged to America” to take back the spaces that, from their point of view, the government of President Barack Obama has snatched from the public since arriving at the White House.
"This new governing agenda, built by listening to the people, offers plans to create jobs, cut spending, and put power where it belongs: in the hands of the people," Republican Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, John Boehner, stated at an event in which his fellow Republicans appeared in shirtsleeves to distance themselves from the formal and official image in Washington.
In their agenda, called "Pledge to America," Republicans expressed their rejection of the reforms adopted under the Obama administration. In particular, they advocate for the repeal of health reform, whose first phase came into effect just yesterday, preventing insurance companies from rejecting a client for pre-existing medical conditions or expelling him or her for contracting a long-term illness.
The Republicans promised to end "taxes that kill jobs," reduce public spending and end economic bailouts. "The land of opportunity has become the land of shrinking prosperity ... Our government has failed us," said Rep. Kevin McCarthy.
In their 21-page agenda, the leaders of the Republican Party also increase the priority of strengthening border security, confirming their intention to bow to pressure from the most conservative sectors.
"The problem of illegal immigration and Mexican drug cartels engaged in an increasingly violent conflict means we need all hands on deck to address this challenge. We will reaffirm the authority of state and local law enforcement to assist in the enforcement of all federal immigration laws" the agenda says. Lawmakers also seek to revive some of the most controversial military projects, like the missile defense system that Obama rejected as too onerous.
