Unfair to Place Radio Collars on Students: India

India has termed the placing of radio collars on Indian students in a university in California, U.S. as “unfair” and has demanded the policy’s removal.

The government has stated that it is seriously worried about the impact of the action of Federal officials on the Indian students of California-situated TriValley University.

A foreign ministry statement has said, we have told American officials that they should treat Indian students well and that the use of a monitor on a group of students, which is used when someone is arrested and then released with a monitor placed on him under American laws, is unfair and should be removed.

The foreign ministry summoned the U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief, Donald Liu, and said that the students should be treated well and they should be given ample opportunity to clarify their position.

The statement says that many of the university’s students had migrated to other universities. About 100 students had taken visas from the U.S. embassy in India and many students had registered in the university as dependents on their partners only after completing the necessary formalities.

भारत ने अमेरिका के कैलिफोर्निया के एक विश्वविद्यालय में भारतीय छात्रों पर रेडियो कॉलर लगाने की घटना को ‘अनुचित’ बताते हुए इसे हटाने की मांग की है।

सरकार ने कहा कि वह कैलिफोर्निया स्थित ट्राई वैली विश्वविद्यालय के भारतीय छात्रों के खिलाफ संघीय अधिकारियों की कार्रवाई के प्रभाव पर ‘गंभीर रूप से चिंतित’ है।

विदेश मंत्रालय के एक वक्तव्य में कहा गया है, हमने अमेरिकी अधिकारियों को बता दिया है कि छात्रों के साथ अच्छा व्यवहार होना चाहिए और छात्रों के एक समूह पर मॉनिटर का इस्तेमाल किया जाना, जिन्हें अमेरिकी कानून के तहत हिरासत में लेकर बाद में मॉनिटर लगाए हुए रिहा किया गया, अनुचित था और इसे हटाया जाना चाहिए।

विदेश मंत्रालय ने भारत स्थित अमेरिकी दूतावास के उप प्रमुख डोनाल्ड लियू को बुलाकर उनसे कहा कि छात्रों के साथ अच्छा व्यवहार होना चाहिए और उन्हें उनकी स्थिति को स्पष्ट करने के लिए पर्याप्त मौका दिया जाना चाहिए।

इसमें कहा गया है कि विश्वविद्यालय के बहुत से छात्रों ने दूसरे विश्वविद्यालयों से स्थानांतरण लिया था। लगभग 100 छात्रों ने भारत में अमेरिकी दूतावास से वीजा लिया था और अमेरिका में बहुत से छात्रों ने अपने साथी पर निर्भर रहने वाले के तौर पर विश्वविद्यालय में आवश्यक औपचारिकताओं के बाद पंजीकरण कराया था।
