President Dilma repudiated violent extremism in a letter of solidarity sent to the president of the United States, Barack Obama, concerning the 10th anniversary of the attacks suffered by the country on September 11, 2001.

“I think that the greatest tribute we can pay to more than 3,000 innocent people who perished that day is to continue to be inspired by the courage displayed by the American people in the face of this tragedy, and to continue to work tirelessly for a world of peace and development,” says part of a letter released Saturday.

In the document, President Dilma says she shares President Obama’s vision that violent extremism should be fought in all forms, but she made an appeal for reconciliation between the West and the Arab world and for the elimination of nuclear armament.

President Dilma also appealed to President Obama for the promotion of economic development and for the creation of opportunities for all in a world of peace and cooperation.
