The Only Way to Stop the Drone Attacks

Pakistanis often innocently ask: There are many anti-American countries in the world, but why is Pakistan the only country being targeted by the United States' drone attacks? One does not need to think a lot or do extensive research to answer this question. The answer to the question is simple. First, let me tell you a joke.

One day Bhagwan (a Hindu God) appeared to a man in his dream. He said to the man, “Your brother curses me every day. If you do not make him stop, I will cut your head off.” The man responded, “Bhagwan, what can I do? Why am I responsible for my brother’s behavior? Why don’t you stop him?” Bhagwan asked,”How can I stop him? He does not even believe in me!”

Imagine the following scenarios: What if America attacks China with a drone? China, of course, will fight back, attack America, and ensure that such an attack never takes place again. You are thinking, well of course China will retaliate against America. After all, it is such a powerful country. Then let’s imagine that America attacks North Korea and Iran. Of course, these countries, too, will respond and attack America in return. Let’s take the examples of even weaker countries then, such as Venezuela and Cuba. If America were to attack these relatively weak countries, they would surely fight back. What I am trying to say is that the citizens of all these countries have a strong sense of pride and honor. They know how to defend themselves. They know how to take lives and give lives for the cause of their country.

If we adopt these countries’ attitudes, then we, too, can succeed. Let us say the following words to all our allies and enemies today: Forget what has happened in the past, but if any of you ever launches a drone attack on us in the future, we will surely retaliate! After this declaration, if another country still dares to send their plane into our skies, we will have to strike it down. If a country crosses our borders and attacks us, we must also cross their borders and attack them.

This is the only way these drone attacks will stop. We will not stop these attacks by issuing useless statements and giving political speeches. Let’s ask America and these NATO countries: If we enter with our planes in your countries, how will you respond? (Please note that I am not talking about launching an actual attack on America. I am just giving a hypothetical scenario.)

We will need bravery, honor, and courage to follow the path that I have outlined above. These courageous qualities are always found in people and countries worthy of respect. These countries do not bow their heads in front of a super power. Now is the time for the Pakistani government to decide how it wants to go down in history, as cowards or as brave people. If our government wants to continue obeying America’s every command, then it should know that America will never stop launching drone attacks on us.

ڈرون حملے رکوانے کا واحد طریقہ

مکرمی! اکثر لوگ بڑی معصومیت سے پوچھتے ہیں کہ دنیا میں اور بھی بہت سے ممالک میں امریکی مفادات کے خلاف کام ہو رہا ہے مگر ڈرون حملوں کا نشانہ صرف پاکستان کیوں ہے۔ اس معصوم سے سوال کا جواب ڈھونڈنے کے لئے کسی لمبی چوڑی منطق میں الجھنے کی ضرورت نہیں۔ ایک سادہ سا لطیفہ ہی کافی ہے۔ ایک بھگوان ایک پجاری کے خواب میں آ کر کہتا ہے کہ تمہارا بھائی ہمیں روزانہ گالیاں دیتا ہے۔ اگر تم نے اسے نہ روکا تو ہم تمہاری گردن اڑا دیں گے۔ وہ عرض کرتا ہے اے بھگوان، گستاخی بھائی کرتا ہے اور گردن آپ میری اڑائیں گے؟ آپ اسی کو سبق کیوں نہیں سکھاتے۔ بھگوان کہتا ہے ہم اسے کیسے سبق سکھا سکتے ہیں۔ وہ تو ہمیں مانتا ہی نہیں۔فرض کریں کوئی امریکی طیارہ حملے کی نیت سے چین میں داخل ہوتا ہے جین اس کے ساتھ کیا کرے گا۔ یقیناً اس طیارے کو تباہ کر دے گا تاکہ امریکہ آئندہ ایسی حرکت کی جرات نہ کرے۔ خیر چین ایک بڑی طاقت ہے چین کی بات تو جانے دیں اگر امریکی طیارہ یا میزائل ایران یا شمالی کوریا میں کسی ہدف کو نشانہ بنائے تو کیا اسے جواب نہیں ملے گا۔ خیر ان ممالک کی بات بھی چھوڑیں امریکہ تو کیوبا اور وینزویلا پر بھی حملے کی جرات نہیں کر سکتا۔ اسے معلوم ہے کہ ان لوگوں میں خودداری ہے۔ وہ اپنی خود مختاری کا تحفظ کرنا جانتے ہیں۔ اس کے لئے وہ جان دے بھی سکتے ہیں اور جان لے بھی سکتے ہیں۔ اگر ہم میں بھی خودداری ہے تو ہمیں بھی وہی راستہ اپنانا ہو گا جو زندہ قوموں کا راستہ ہے۔ اپنے دوستوں، دشمنوں اور اتحادیوں کو ایک بار صاف صاف بتا دیا جائے کہ اب تک جو ہو چکا، سو ہو چکا مگر اب ہم ڈرون یا اس قسم کا کوئی اور حملہ برداشت نہیں کریں گے۔ اس یقین دہانی کے بعد اگر کوئی جنگی طیارہ ہماری حدود میں داخل ہوتا ہے تو اسے گرا دیا جائے۔ اگر سرحد پار سے کوئی میزائل ہم پر داغا جاتا ہے تو ہمارا میزائل بھی سرحد پار اس ہدف کو نشانہ بنائے۔ یہی واحد طریقہ ہے ڈرون حملے رکوانے کا۔ درخواستیں کرنے یا بیانات دینے سے یہ حملے نہیں رکیں گے۔ اگر امریکہ یا نیٹو ممالک میں سے کسی کو ہماری اس نئی پالیسی پر اعتراض ہو تو ان سے پوچھا جا سکتا ہے کہ اگر ہمارے جہاز ان کی حدود میں داخل ہوں تو ان کا کیا جواب ہو گا۔ واضح رہے کہ یہاں امریکہ یا کسی اور ملک پر حملے کی بات نہیں ہو رہی صرف اپنے دفاع کی بات ہو رہی ہے۔ اس فیصلے پر عملدرآمد کرانے کے لئے جس چیز کی ضرورت ہے وہ ہے غیرت اور خودداری۔ یہ صفات خوددار لوگوں میں پائی جاتی ہیں۔ کسی سپر پاور کو خدا یا دیوتا ماننے والوں میں نہیں۔ پاکستانی قیادت فیصلہ کر لے کہ تاریخ میں اپنا نام اس نے کن لوگوں میں لکھوانا ہے اگر اس نے اب بھی ہر فیصلہ امریکہ ہی سے پوچھ کر کرنا ہے تو اسے یہ فیصلہ مبارک مگر اتنا ضرور یقین رکھے کہ امریکہ اسی پر ڈرون حملے کرتا ہے جو امریکہ کو مانتا ہے اور امریکہ کی مانتا ہے۔(ڈاکٹر واصف نور گلبرگ لاہور)
