In an article specially written for the Russian publication Kommersant, State Department Special Envoy for Strategic Stability and Missile Defense Ellen Tauscher and U.S. Assistant Defense Secretary for Global Strategic Issues Madeleine Cridon continued to exhort and soothe Russian leadership, claiming that the American missile defense system is not a threat for Russia.
Iran has no intention to attack Europe, nor does North Korea
They have not tired of trying to convince us that the anti-rocket system is a matter of life and death necessity, that it is needed to defend the United States from “outlaw governments.” In reality, it is absolutely obvious that such missile attacks are not a real threat to Europe and the U.S. — North Korean and Iranian missiles are no more than a myth. Correspondingly, Iran has no intention of attacking Europe, nor does North Korea. This means that the reason behind America’s actions is entirely different. It’s not about threats from Russia, since NATO knows perfectly well the state of our military and our peaceful intentions. Modern Russia has no reason to attack Europe or, more generally, to fight in the West, not when the eastern part of our country is emptying out.
One can assume that a raid for Arctic resources is being planned
For the sake of fairness, we should clarify that they also are targeting China. They are interested in the opportunity to seize and destroy our nuclear missiles while initiating the acceleration phase of their trajectory. Besides this, the missile shield will realize a program (one that has not been very successful) to intercept our rockets during the descent portion of their trajectory. On March 20-21, at a NATO summit in Chicago, a program for modernizing this military-political bloc will be announced. According to many sources, NATO is currently cutting back on spending for most of the alliance’s various functions, but is not scrimping on budgetary allocations for a program designed to create a global missile shield.
As we can see, neutralizing our nuclear missile potential remains a priority for the West. One can only guess: In what sort of situation will the West use its ability to intercept our missiles and warheads? With regards to how the elements of the American missile shield are being deployed, it is not difficult to ascertain that the shield is predominately pointed towards the North. One can assume that a raid for Arctic resources is being planned, so that the Americans will not have to give us any guarantees or assume any responsibilities. Their political tradition is to never become weaker in any arena. Of course, they are willing to make concessions, but always prefer to do so from a position of strength.
