U.S. Presidential Elections and Women
The ongoing conflict in the so-called U.S. presidential election reminds me of a similar one that revolved around the previous Egyptian presidential election. An infectious disease is spreading from America to other countries all over of the world. The TV debate broadcast live on Oct. 3 between Obama and Romney was very similar to the debate between former candidates for the Egyptian presidency. This similarity has clearly emerged in the form of the television-prescription: an artificial thrill for the masses, coupled with the uninterrupted spate of commercial breaks and advertisements. Before the start of the debate, an announcement was made one hundred times that the debate would begin at 7 p.m., but it started at 9 p.m. The aim of such a move was to exploit the masses and keep them staring, for two hours, at ads that they did not want to see. These ads were forcefully imposed on them in order to promote market goods whose creators are not satisfied with their own profits.
This was just what happened with us: the same disregard for the masses’ valuable time, and the promotion of goods at the expense of peoples’ nerves. Idiotic and easily misled people, who are affected by such media anesthesia, were impatiently waiting for the historic TV debate while sitting in front of the TV screens like kidnapped hostages or hired slaves. Nonetheless, the mountain produced nothing but a small mouse, as the popular proverb says. The whole story was simply a farce, the first objective of which was to display ads for goods that are not essential for the majority of the people. The second objective was to convince people that an important historical battle was about to start and that they could not miss it.
Finally, Obama and Romney appeared, shook hands, and stood behind the high table, mirroring the same movements that took place in Egypt.
Then the cockfight started. However, there was no conflict besides some minor differences regarding the economy, health, education, increasing or decreasing the taxes imposed on middle class Americans and a few others.
Obama is more supportive to the middle class than Romney, while the latter supports the community of small and big businessmen more than his opponent. The incumbent U.S. president sees a greater role for the state in organizing the lust that companies and banks have for profit; Romney's view is focused on minimizing the state's role and launching his sacred idea of freedom. The differences between the policies adopted by the Democratic and Republican parties are not significant. Indeed, each of them belongs to the capitalist class that depends on military force to support Israel's security.
Indeed, there is no disagreement between Obama and Romney in terms of foreign policy: Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Libya, Egypt, Syria, Iran and Turkey are all included in the Middle East dossier. However, most of their speeches and statements are focused on Iran's nuclear project, without a single word about Israel's nuclear arsenal.
The majority of the American people are not much different from the majority in Egypt and other countries. There is the same "Couch Potato Party,” which is deeply interested only in eating and supplying its own happiness: satisfying the mind with the pleasure of satisfying the stomach, engaging in sex and watching television.
Some TV anchorwomen or female "politicians" have bodies with extra pounds. They sit with one leg over the other in front of millions of viewers, revealing fat thighs and elephant knees, while a slim colleague reveals bony legs that look like those of the bamboo chair.
Oppression of women is based on fashion. Revealing part of the breasts or thighs is aimed at attracting audiences for advertising and media.
Oppression against women by the act of revealing their bodies is no different than oppressing them by covering them. Hence, women here and there are just covered or naked bodies, under different physical or spiritual slogans.
