US Threatens Pakistan on Iran Gas Agreement

America has threatened Pakistan with possible sanctions if it moves to implement the gas pipeline project with Iran, as trade and economic sanctions are already in place against Iran by America and Europe.

Ever since Pakistan made an agreement to receive gas from Iran, its brotherly neighboring country, to ease its energy crisis, the U.S. has adopted a negative attitude toward Pakistan and opposed it, even though the project will help reduce the current energy crisis in Pakistan. In an attempt to isolate Iran, the U.S. is pressuring Pakistan not to take advantage of this project.

The courageous stance adopted by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari in announcing the decision to implement the project is praiseworthy. Pakistan will stand by him in this decision. American threats and sanctions are unjustified. If several countries, including China and India, are exempt from sanctions for trading gas and oil with Iran, then why can’t Pakistan be, too? Please tell us, Uncle Sam, are we more advanced than China in the energy sector?

امریکہ نے ایران کیساتھ گیس پائپ لائن کے منصوبے پر عمل کی صورت میں پاکستان کو دھمکی دی ہے کہ وہ اس منصوبے سے باز رہے ورنہ اس پر پابندیاں لگ سکتی ہیں کیونکہ امریکہ اور یورپ کی طرف سے ایران پر پہلے ہی تجارتی اور اقتصادی پابندیاں عائد ہیں۔ توانائی کے بحران کیلئے پاکستان نے جب سے اپنے پڑوسی برادر ملک ایران سے گیس حاصل کرنے کا معاہدہ کیا ہے اس پر امریکہ نے ہمیشہ منفی رویہ اختیار کرتے ہوئے اسکی مخالفت کی ہے جبکہ اس منصوبے سے پاکستان میں توانائی کے جاری بحران کو کم کرنے میں مدد مل سکے گی مگر امریکہ صرف ایران کو تنہا کرنے کیلئے پاکستان پر اس فائدہ مند منصوبے سے علیحدہ ہونے کیلئے دباﺅ ڈال رہا ہے۔ اس موقع پر صدر پاکستان آصف علی زرداری نے جرا¿ت مند مو¿قف اختیار کرتے ہوئے جس طرح اس منصوبے کی تکمیل کا اعلان کیا ہے وہ قابل تحسین ہے۔ پاکستانی قوم ان کے اس فیصلے کا ساتھ دیگی۔ امریکی دھمکیاں اور پابندیاں ناجائز ہیں۔ ایران کے ساتھ گیس اور تیل کی تجارت پر پابندیوں سے چھوٹ اگر چین اور ہندوستان سمیت کئی ممالک کو میسر ہیں، تو پھر پاکستان کو کیوں نہیں؟ بتائیے انکل سام ہم کیا توانائی کے شعبہ میں چین سے زیادہ ترقی کر چکے ہیں؟
