It surprised the whole world that the presidents of the United States of America and communist Cuba agreed to reestablish diplomatic relations more than half a century after their rupture.

Internationally, the decision by the two Western countries has caused unprecedented expectation because the ideologies of the two peoples are completely different: The Americans, or at least the overwhelming majority of them, are democratic, while the Cubans, are allegedly antidemocratic and anti-freedom.

It has been said that the mediation of Pope Francis, in the name of the Vatican, helped the resumption of diplomatic ties between both governments.

Has the Yankee President Barack Obama taken a wrong step, or has he proceeded correctly regarding relations with the communist Cuba of the Castro brothers? Who knows!

The Caribbean dictators and their allies from various latitudes must be rubbing their hands in complacency, because at least for now, the presidents of both nations have abandoned the state of war.

Cuba and its South American equals have conspired against what they call “the empire.”

Come to think of it, based on the opposite ideologies of the diplomatic entente’s protagonists, they could put scorpions down Uncle Sam’s shirt.

Communists are not to be trusted. During the Second World War they played bad tricks on democratic countries such as the United States of America, which, with mounds of armament, saved Russia — mother and father of communism — from succumbing before the armored Nazi beast of Hitler’s Germany.

In the high circles of the Cuban regime, Fidel Castro, who is the “reddish gray-bearded eminence” behind the throne of his little brother Raúl, has not opened his mouth to comment on the prominent accord signed by the U.S.A. and a Cuba that is governed Soviet-style. Commander Fidel’s silence is very significant.

We shall see, then, what will happen to the aforementioned relations between the American superpower and Castro’s Cuba.
